The butcher is young fella worth helping , i might make him an offer of averaging i will see ..
I’m not worrying. I’ve spent more time worrying the other way, I was just relaying what they say and trying to make any sense of it. We never get to the bottom of these things. They say this every time prices go up. What other industry would worry about getting too much for what they produce
You’re in trouble when @Devil's advocate reads thisI wonder if there"s any nice corn merchant/arable farmer out there who could help me out ? My ewe rolls are a tad dear,I would be alot happier paying nearer £200 than £300 a ton, just till I dont need anymore rolls then I can pay any amount for them Also thinking straw is a bit over priced for a "biproduct" think I could stand £75-80 a ton delivered? just till turn out then I can pay absolute top wack.....so pleeeeease can someone help me out, I will be very grateful til next week..........................(no need to be too rude!)
He can come and do a bit here. Amazing how quickly i can chuck gaps up when I need to gather up all the lambing hurdlesTell him to get a evening and weekend job dry stonewalling or summat, that would help him out a bit.
If so surely arrangements could be made for discounted services in the future, butchering home kill for instanceThe butcher is young fella worth helping , i might make him an offer of averaging i will see ..
We have kept more Ewe lambs back for replacements than we normally do, won't be selling them,More lambs than ive ever seen in frome this morning , over 2000 think he said ,all alleyways filled didnt stop long as lambing ATM so will see trade later , were replacement ewe lambs (60kg+) looking through the pens , if i was looking for 2t this year might need to raid the fat pens early i recon , cant see there will be much about , though still a lot of unfinished lambs still on farms due to wet winter .
Back then our chap was paying more than market price.Or tell him he should have saved some money when they were 260p it’s not that long ago 3/4 months ago infact
I am only talking about a few lambs but It can work but both parties need to play fair. The butcher is young fella worth helping , i might make him an offer of averaging i will see ..
Well cut the price of the lamb an put 25p/50p mark up on the rest of the produce in the shop.Just been in my local butchers he hasnt bought any lambs this week cant go at £8.50 he says its just to dear
You know what they say, there is only one cure for high prices! To be fair our butcher often says at certain times of year lamb can be a loss leader to him but he always wants to keep his regular customers supplied as they buy a lot of beef too.Just been in my local butchers he hasnt bought any lambs this week cant go at £8.50 he says its just to dear
he will at some point , look at anything else that has had a massive price increase , bit of a shock to start but soon becomes normality , how many of us would have paid £400T for creep or ewe nuts a few years ago (thats what lambs were fed on last summer ) .Just been in my local butchers he hasnt bought any lambs this week cant go at £8.50 he says its just to dear
Plenty in the supermarkets on offer so Clare said this morning, perhaps the custom won't come backOur local butcher has a sign up sayin he isn’t stocking lamb due to high prices. Will order some specifically if ordered tho.
Mine aswell. Lamb available pre order only. He had some 2T chops which he said he had trimmed a lot of fat off. £13.00 a kilo. Our local butcher has a sign up sayin he isn’t stocking lamb due to high prices. Will order some specifically if ordered tho.
Yes I would as long as he showed me his margins and we had the same deal all year roundAny farmer want to help a butcher out this Easter?
Any one who know’s me will know I’m a great supporter of the mart system and getting a fair value for stock, in most cases I have paid well over the sales averages and paid top dollar to stock my shop.
With the current inflation in the Hogg trade (I support to an extent) selling hogget/lamb over the counter has become unsustainable and to the customer unjustifiable. It is not as easy as putting the price up week on week until the price levels off. I can not continue to sell at a loss therefore will have to stop selling it altogether.
The point I’m making here is that I’m asking everyone (37 different farms) that I have supported over the last two years of buying for myself to try and support me, there must be someone who can meet me in the middle and help me out with some affordable Hoggs to keep me going until the new season.
46-50kg Hogg’s £175.00 is where I need to be at just to break even with Transport and killing costs taking that to over £210.00 a head! So you can see where I’m struggling to connect the dots when paying £200.00+ at the mart before any other costs.
Thoughts ?? Would you help him or not ?
Last time I took note of the price of chops they were £16/kg (Borough Market London two years ago).Mine aswell. Lamb available pre order only. He had some 2T chops which he said he had trimmed a lot of fat off. £13.00 a kilo.
I like the idea, not sure it will work out like that.thats exactly it ,
they never helped us , in fact they ripped us off big time in F+M years , That BPS was given to us to keep food cheap so we all sold at around COP , will be a bit of a wake up call when they need to pay 40 years worth of inflation for same product .
That's the thing. Plenty of butchers/ farm shops want a fixed price rather than something that follows the sqq. That's fair enough if you can agree a price to work with.Yes I would as long as he showed me his margins and we had the same deal all year round
