They are fronts for money laundering though aren't they ?
A lad in my class in school bought up the only barbers in Porthmadog at that time (60s) and expanded the business to 3 chairs by the time he retired. I find it hard to imagine him doing any laundry to be honest.
I think there are 2 or 3 more in town now, including a Turkish.

FIL's funeral last Sat , I realised a lot would be travelling 200 miles plus so we put on coffee/ tea and cakes in the church before hand .... we publicised it so that folks were aware that it was available ...... plenty commented how nice it was to get a nice fresh proper tea or coffee and it saved them from having to find a Costa or such like!
......now if only I had thought to charge £5 a cup 🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂.... missed a trick there !

Does nobody have a thermos flask and a sandwich box anymore that you fill at home ?
I do
Nearly always
I did take sandwiches and flask to the Trial last Sunday
But the Bakery & Cafe was open, on the way
So called in for a ‘proper’ coffee and the freshly baked scones smelt heavenly, so asked if she could butter it and pop it in a paper bag, which she obliged
Guilty pleasure for less than a fiver

This exactly. As for people who think instant coffee is good coffee…what are you tasting?
Proper coffee is worth a premium and the only thing I’ve found that comes near it that you can easily do at home are some of the pod machines.

Some of the more expensive instant coffees are quite acceptable these days imo, but I agree, none of them touch a 'proper' coffee.

If we've descended to posting pics of our coffee mugs, here's what my son gave me.

Agree Neil. Generally Carte Noir here, so long as Mrs PBH stocks up enough when it's on offer 😆

Nothing wrong with the occasional bought coffee. Think I last bought 1 about 18 months ago. The op obviously doesn't buy them that regular either if the price was such a shock.
It's those that get through 2, 3 or 4 a day then claim they can't afford a mortgage/ price of lamb/ cost of living increases that need a wake up call.

Now if we go anywhere, we make a point of stopping for a brew and a sandwich or snack
Life’s to short
Absolutely…. I drive over to South `Yorks from here (Shropshire) every few months to see my sister. I always use the M6 toll to avoid getting stuck in a traffic jam on the M6 and usually stop at Norton Cane for a Costa Coffee and a Bakewell tart, probably adds £15 to the cost of the journey, but as you say , life’s too short and also no pockets in shrouds😀

But in terms of coffee quality, IMHO, of the expensive options Costa OK but variable quality in most places, M&S similarly OK, rarely use Starbuck. Of the cheaper options Greggs and a bacon butty is my usual fare if I’m heading for Shrewsbury, and I agree Macca D’s is always a pleasant surprise on the few occasions the other half drags me in for a cheese burger.

The simple problem is to run a small busineess "legitamatley" it costs to much, example we have a small long established tennant, running a retail shop here, he was talking to me the other day and said he needs to take £2,500 every week just to cover all his running costs, thats electric, staff etc etc etc, thats before theres anything for him? No wonder the "black economy" is flourishing?

We have a kitchen cupboard with nothing in it but coffee, bought on offer.😂

I was walking round town one Saturday and decided to splash out on a hot chocolate in the Waterstones cafe. I decided to go for a large with all the trimmings and it came out like a huge Sundae glass with marshmallows, chocolate sprinkles and a tall squirt of whipped cream that went up my nose. It looked like the sort of thing Liberace would have ordered but I persevered and felt sick for the next three days. But it was worth it and I'll try another when my constitution has recovered sufficiently from the last one.
