What do we all think of yamaha?

450 is better than a Honda 420 but nowhere near as nice as the Suzuki 500. The 700 is though, but thirsty with it.

Yamaha's still have fuel pump issues as far as I'm aware... and the footwell plastics are unsupported so you'll put your foot through them if you don't use the footpeg properly getting on and off

I was told last week that the fuel pump issues have been sorted with a factory recall, and the plastic footwells have been remoulded now.

That was from a Yamaha dealer that was trying to sell me a quad though...

I'm unconvinced, they've been saying they had sorted the fuel pumps for 4 years now

The problem with the plastic is - every other bike manufacturer has a metal frame, attached to the chassis and footpeg which the footwell plastics sits on, giving full support and can carry your weight as you step onto the bike.
The Yamaha has no support - it's held by the lonely footpeg in the middle... The plastic footboard is thin and flat.
If you put you foot onto the outer edge, or front/rear area of the footwell as you get onto the bike you're standing on unsupported plastic which will eventually fail. The footpeg isn't raised from the plastic either - so if you stand when riding your putting weight onto the plastic

To solve the issue they'd need to redesign the entire footwell, which they haven't.

Older Honda 500 here , to be honest we hardly use it since the buggy came along. Never fails to start but has a fairly clunky gear change

Lad we buy tups from is running cf moto and happy with it , they sound loud though.

Easy enough checked.

Look up the parts diagram and if the pump has been upgraded it'll give the old part number and then after it "superseded by" and the new part number.

Historically on TFF any quad bike thread seems to result in people extolling the virtues of canam… no mention so far though; Is their current offering not up to scratch?

Imo they went downhill with the 570. I changed mine in before it ran out of warranty, for a 650 with a 5 yr warranty. That's had a couple of replacement 4wd shafts, which was apparently a (soft metal) fault and supposedly uprated now.

I like the new models, a lot, but it's early days as to whether the have any problems.

I'm split whether to change now, or keep this one until the warranty is out, next year.
Not ruling out a change to Yamaha at that stage though, or even to the Chinesium brand.

I bought one because of recommendations at the time on here,it’s been a great bike,it’s only used as spare nowadays.

I got a Yamaha last year and the footwells have been changed to stop that problem. No other problems

Im on my second Suzuki 750 kingqaud, awesome bikes,

I wouldn't buy a 500 because youll also need to buy a dress to ride it, go the 750 mate.

Ant...

I have a 650 CanAm currently, which is 69hp and can turn enough speed that I could flip it by hitting a pebble on the road.
Sure, it’s nice to have sometimes, but it’s a long way from being necessary to have that much power in a working quad.

Assuming I can find a bike I like, I’m looking at downsizing on power (& fuel use), rather than going the other way. If I need to buy a frock then so be it.

Without sounding like an old fart the first Honda 300 4 x 4 was around £1600 in the early 90’s
Makes you wonder where nine grand comes from

Never had one & never will in a high crime area.

But they don't seem to last very long. All the David Browns bought when I left school are still working somewhere but not seen any Honda trikes in a long time.

What is the weak spot in them?
They are too handy and they go too fast and carry too much for their own good. You go the same speed as a bike on your David brown and see how long it lasts or rather how long you last. but I’d recommend a good seatbelt a crash helmet
