Yep, it's right up there with having a PM whose party only managed to get 21% of the vote and whose country was entirely subject to a outside diktat, you know, like the ROI. :)

as you know, I have no interest in eu discussions as it’s past now… but this I think needs pulling up; what do you mean by « entirely « ?
For example, I live on the edge of the Vienne /Haute Vienne and the main road has a different speed limit in each department. Are you seriously saying this is coming from Brussels ?

Hmm, as I suspect you know... EU law permits any state to do whatever it wants - providing it conforms to EU law. So, within that remit the member states have a free-rein; but they may not breech any EU Treaty (constitution), ECJ ruling or EC Regulation / Directive... simple really.

for example, Austria had its own Glyphosate ban (I don’t know if it still does or not), so going it’s own way. I suppose you are saying that Belgium can’t legalise murder, whilst in the EU?
As far as I am aware, the taxes I pay here are set in France, during those days of ridiculous discussions, folk from the Uk were saying all taxes were set by Brussels. Im sure they are wrong, if only that I am sure Brussels couldn’t make anything so complicated.

Vat is set by Brussels, countries have limited powers to vary the percentage of general things plus a few are allowed to be zero rated. Isn't there also plans for a minimum tax rate and of course interest rates are dictated from Brussels, to me that is in many ways the worse thing

tbh I would doubt that about TVA. And obviously duty on tractor fuel isn’t, as that is what the protests have been about.
3% annual tax is definitely a French only thing as there have been battles within the European courts as to whether it is a just tax

my MSA (National insurance to you, not motor sport association) are definitely French as they even vary within trades

Unemployment benefit regime is totally different in France or Czech Republic so one must assume they are not centrally set from Brussels .
Mind, I can’t really imagine that many folks swallowed the lies from Farage 🤔

Although I am realistic enough to know that by and large, people will believe what they want/choose to believe

Minimum rate of 15% vat plus a few things can be reduced.
