SFI - Self Help and Tips

They've published enough to make fair decisions. The list is out there, along with proposed rates, and we can make a fair assessment of what the compatibilities are likely to be.

There's nothing any use to me (juicy options are prohibited on grass), and I doubt there'll be any surprise treats. My exploration of another agreement is mostly to understand how the system works. Probably won't submit anything.
They have not published the details yet... only approximate rates for political and propaganda purposes.. The Devil is in the Detail....but if nothing proposed for 2024 has any interest for you personally then carry on..

May I ask what you are using sample wise please- new to this and wondered what others were using.
To be honest, I haven't thought much about it. Probably only get round to it 11 months after start date, or when prompted for evidence.

The last time I read it, I concluded that they could only expect to see OM results - the usual full analysis is not part of the requirement, though technically required for farming rules for water, and maybe crops RT?

The 'soil assessment' could be desktop-based if necessary ;)

The RLE1 form has been replaced by an online process through the webpage. Part parcels take a little longer but I think they are prioritising any changes marked as being for SFI.

Well same :) but trying not to have a last minute panic in winter tbh ha!

Desktop based - you've lost me - tell me what you mean.

Ours is pasture and would help with water insight.

Desktop based is an fancy term for when highly paid professionals produce a report without getting their feet dirty. Can you tell I've been preparing for an RT audit?

I'm having an issue with IPM4. I'm filling in the tick boxes in 'Apply for your SFI actions on available land parcels
and none have an option for IPM4! Any suggestions?

Does anyone know if you can apply for the hedgerow options at a later date? I really need to get an SFI application in so it roughly co-insides with stewardship & cropping declarations. But we haven't got round to mapping our hedges and I was wondering if anyone knew if we could submit for hedging options after our main SFI application?
thanks

The process and timing for adding options, and the consequences for agreement end dates, is still very unclear, but you can certainly create new agreements any time you want. There should be no clash with area-based options. Have a play with the system.

You use the phrase mapping your hedges - all you need are the lengths from Google distance calculator. No need to update Rpa maps, in case that was what you were thinking.

I had been hoping to map the hedges on the ground using real-time GPS so hedge trees etc could be logged to and so things are unambiguously mapped. Not sure of the accuracy of using Google maps with gaps, bramble grown fences looking like hedge etc. But it might be simplest, just got get it done and in at the same time as the maim application

I have submitted applications without hedges and intend submitting a hedge only application at later date for clients.

Keep your hedges out of SFI... they might be your pension fund!! I like the idea of tying SFI in with the May 15th annual deadline to notify the RPA as to what is in your fields! Sounds like CS cheers🫠

How quickly are people being paid? Started SFI agreement 1/11/23 first payment received 13/11/23 as part of the early adopter advanced payment thing they did, was foolishly expecting next one today.

Just rang and they said first payment 4 months after it starts then subsequent 3 monthly.

Been on the phone over an hour, no-one will look at my cs agreement to tell me what im doing wrong or why I cant apply for bird boxes in the same field as an SFI for grass.

Why is it so hard to navigate, I seriously feel thick headed and stupid and it puts me off applying.

So my SFI agreement went live 1st May 2024. Do I presume that the handbook relevant to my agreement is the latest version printed Version 6 April 2024 and that any subsequent editions with potential changes to the options I have selected will not be applicable to the agreement and option choices?
With HLS the scheme rules were as per the relevant edition of the handbook published at the time the agreement went live.
With the potential for change quite high, I want reassurance that I am playing by a known set of rules. But I have not looked to see and I do not know if this is the case?

I took a copy of the current guidance and the terms and conditions on the day I accepted. Don't know if it will make any difference.
