What makes the bigger difference. Day length or temperature?
Often wonder if the cooler springs up here push flag leaf emergence to coincide with maximum day length, rather than being three or four weeks earlier in the south when flag leaf does not match maximum day length?

so to conclude, aberdeenshire should in theory be the highest yielding area on the east coast of scotland? is the soil generally easy worked?

Me too , got 15 acres of pp that was roundupped last August that will have to be done
Like cat shite underneath and had been ploughed in the autumn but dry on top and wet under still. Drilled some beans yesterday and dropped in two wet holes but managed to back out before getting stuck. Will run the subsoiler through the rest in summer and might sow some mustard off the back of it to hopefully suck some moisture out of it.
I'll sow the barley then probably let the sheep have it
