who’s still got barley to plant?
I thought I'd finished but agronomist told me not to bother with MUM3,so its going in with s,barley.
MUM3 will go in the autumn now.
Drilled barley on the 22 last year,it made malting so it covered its arse.
Looking at weather its looking very unsettled at the end of the week,so I'll press on tomorrow, hopefully and it'll be up and away, its just needs to warm up🥶🤯

Started this afternoon.
Not much to do thankfully, do all be well done by tomorrow night
Started this evening after a quick pit stop to put the combi on having just finished beans. Still got to work a lot of ground ahead of the drill.

should be finished by the time the weather breaks on Thursday. Oh and get the pre-em on the beans and get some nitrogen on top of the drilling…

I think it was @Tim May who had said he had been sowing almost every month in the last 10. Well I would swap that as we have had 3 windows to drill here:

1. Mauling it in, in September, on some of our lighter ground. About 5 days.
2. A hot week in October.
3. This week at the end of April where we are not only fighting against the weather but the calendar.

Utterly exhausting.

That would get rejected at the maltsers. Low germination.

Got all the better land in by ploughing and combi, 30 acres of heavy clay after failed rape left to drill with barley, hoping to get a man with a direct disc drill just to slot it in, he mentioned subsoiling it first but I don’t see the point, it’s dry ish on top but wet underneath!
