Windows 10

Some of your programs won't work.

I don't dislike W10 but my computer seems to, it freezes up for no real reason. I installed it a while ago but after a week or so went back to 8.1. This week Microsoft decided I was wrong and reinstalled it for me. I tried it for a few days and went back to 8.1 again today.
I think my hard drive is a bit iffy which won't help but I can't be doing with the damned thing just freezing up all the time.

Sounds like something making the PC work and it cant respond to you.
As above delete and clean ...........
Takes a bit of time/effort but should be worth it

This is what the screen looks like now. Not really much to click onto.

We run quickbooks account software.
Our 2012 version will not run on windows 10, so no intention of upgrading from windows 7, which works perfectly well.:banghead::banghead:

Same here. The QB program is fine, in that it's simple, it works and it does everything I need it to do without an ongoing subscription. I'd like to keep it and was wondering whether it would work with W10 or not.
W7 stays then.(y)

Once the world has been coerced into 'upgrading' to Windows 10 for free there will not be any new versions of Windows. Microsoft will have the ability to constantly 'upgrade' you in small increments whether you want it or not.

They will then earn their money, not from the computer owning punter, but from the company which benefits from the continual, incremental changes.

What companies will benefit?
How or where, will they get their revenue stream from?

So we will be installing bootleg software to stop the automatic downloads from Microsoft?
Which will leave us even more open to internet fraud ............

I've got used to W10 now but I miss Thunderbird and all my old emails which I can't access anymore. Thank goodness the email contacts are accessible but I can't send emails via Thunderbird. Am currently using Talktalk which is inferior IMO.
When W10 installed itself, it must have disarmed my newly renewed MacAfee and a virus set in straight away which caused a hell of a lot of grief.

This week, on and off, I have been dealing with a PC suffering a failed win 10 update - corrupt or missing (who knows) BFD- master boot record in win 10 speak.

Result was an inaccessible locked drive no matter what I did with it- with thousands of photo's, emails and farm records on it. And no backup.

To cut a long story short, I did find a way in to the drive and harvested off the irreplaceable data , which was all there.

It's getting Win7 again on a solid state drive, the original used for data, and a cloud based backup. The bill will be large, but they have their data back and a backup strategy in place.

Please guys, ensure you have a viable backup or at least a separate drive for data , and be aware the red cross AGREES TO THE SCHEDULED UPGRADE!!!!!!!

I use Thunderbird with W10
I have a program called Mozbackup which backs up all Mozilla Thunderbird and Firefox and then you can restore it to a new PC
I guess that's a bit too late for you though?

I assume you mean you are using webmail to access your talktalk e mails?
Have you looked on the TT website on how to set up Thunderbird?

Oh, well, at least it did something useful!!!! :);)

10 is like Marmite! you either love it or hate it.....i installed it after many years of BETA/ALPHA testing 7, i love 7 it was a big move in the right direction from XP and the dreaded vista, but getting back to 10 i found not all the drivers where released for it and some softwares are still not compatible dont forget 10 really is still in BETA! an OS needs to be at least several years RC before its out of BETA and 10 isnt

I had an email from Intuit today, offering 70% discount (expiring in a day or two) on an upgrade to the latest version, which will work if Microsoft sneakily upgrade you to W10. Wanted to stay on Desktop, so upgraded to QuickBooks Pro 2016 for £86.70(y)

Pretty sure everything here will work when I am 'upgraded' now, so 'shouldn't' be any disasters.

So how do you reject the upgrade?

Laptop won't even switch on properly now after kids clicked the red X to close the windows 10 upgrade suggestion box thing.
I've tried clicking f1, f2, f12 and it won't do f'all.
