Making a quick entry top link

I'm currently making a quick entry top link. I've been told it should slide 4" altogether. When I go into my plot, with the top link at it's shortest, and the spring loaded pin released. Then I engage the spring loaded pin, lift the plough up and the top link should extend 2" before it clicks into place. And when I come to go out of my plot the top link should extend another 2" when the spring loaded pin is released again. Is this correct? Hope this sounds clear enough.

You will find the amount of travel you can get will depend on the length of the original top link you use.
The longer the centre tube the more travel you can get. If you can trim the threaded ends you can get more travel when you trip it but at the expense of screw adjustment. It is at best a compromise of these two factors that suits you best.

I copied mine (circa 2003) from a Ransome one, it's 2" in either direction. My "metric" drawing attached for the pin...

Thank you for that very technical drawing. 2" each way the top link will have.
