On S4C farming there is competition to win new quad bike fitted with rotax engine but what is rotax engine

Can Am have Rotax engines

Think Rotax is part of the BRP group that own Can Am, Ski Do and make turbo Prop planes.

Owned by Bombardier, long established and widely used in light aircraft and ultralights; and becoming quite popular in go-karting. Youngest son races a 125cc 2 stroke Rotax 'junior' kart, reaches 76mph on the straights at 14,000 rpm.
They have a reputation for being pretty bomb proof.

I have a 2002 model Aprilia Caponord motorbike that has a V twin 1000 cc Rotax engine
KTM also used that engine at one point.
Rotax built engines for the single cylinder BMW bikes also
You see Rotax engines in gyro copters ( where I would imagine reliability would be rather crucial )
As said, quality brand & part of a much larger organisation

Rotax made a huge amount of 2stroke motors for what was 250grand prix class racing back in the good old days of 2strokes. Where all rotary valve too.as said above they do a lot of stuff for Aprilia or did and those ski mobile things too

I got a bag from them at LAMMA. Took it with me to Canada as carry on baggage.
BRP, Ski-doo, lynx, sea-doo, evinrude, rotax, can-am is what is printed on it.

Karts are probably the last hold out for their 2-strokes. Everything otherwise is 4 stroke.

Mind you some of their four-strokes triples are pretty sweet In supercharged guise....230hp or 300hp out of 1503cc or 1600cc. Not bad really. Although supercharger clutch washers are a bit tricksy if they go wrong.

A friends dad flies with a 912 4 stroke. The 915is turbo in the Kitfox ultralight looks *really nice*, 141hp on 'land anywhere' bush tyres:

My first enduro bike was a CCM Armstrong with a 250cc rotax two stroke, it was it bit lively, it was all or nothing with the power ! Good fun tho !
