That's not really marketing it yourself though, is it? Just trying one other customer. Many of us sell beef in boxes direct to the householder, and I reckon on an additional £300-£500/hd over and above what I'd get in the mart. Now, be honest with yourself - what's your profit margin per head of cattle right now? Sure there's work involved, but much of it is whilst watching TV in the evening and on an hourly basis it is definitely better than driving your own sprayer.
I didn't say it was I, was answering @Henarar question on it not mattering if there's a premium or not it's the final price that matters.
All my Beef is sold through a cooperative to various outlets , I don't always sell to the highest payer , I take into account how far the cattle have to travel as well so usually they go to Tescos & M &s.
So my marketing is left to the cooperative & I'm pleased with the work they do.
Sprayer!!!?? Think you mite be talking to the wrong farmer as one wouldn't be allowed on the farm:eek:

Just to encourage the collective grey matter into more suggestions, a question:
Who makes the meal decisions in most households ? Which well known names would they regard as being trustworthy ?

The thing is, meal decisions are often in the hands of teenagers these days. A diet will be transmitted, repeated, and squealed about in schools and places of further education - won't necessarily be endorsed by the school or place of further education - and it's pester power from then on. Teenage years last from 12 - 25 years of age. Parents - especially those who feel they're their offsprings' friend rather than a parent - bend to it, and join in themselves to keep the offspring sweet.

So, in answer, at least one influencer will have to be talking directly to 12 - 25 year olds. Unfortunately, I'm out of touch with the culture, and have no suggestions as to who that might be, sorry. Whoever it is, though, must be authentic, and be able to transmit facts as narrative that's acceptable to that age group's sensibilities.

Seems to me the industry needs to head-hunt a red meat champion:
- High public profile
- Respected, rather than jokey.
- Intelligent enough to take on board and articulate the points made on TFF re climate change and livestock.
- Media savvy.
- Available.
- Affordable.

Suggestions ?
Some one like this?

The rot set in when it was permitted for children to take sandwiches in for school dinner. (Dinner having the northern meaning of the midday meal). I remember that transition and so began the bread and spread generation instead of the meat and two veg.

IMO children should be forced to eat what is put in front of them at school or they should have nothing.

I sometimes holiday at a hotel on the island of Texel favoured by retired Germans. We all sit down at 6 pm for the evening meal. There is no choice. They just bring whatever the chef has decided to cook and you eat it or you get nothing. It saves waste and complexity. A good idea reminiscent of less picky and fussy times when people pulled together as a country and ate what was available rather than made silly demands according to the latest fad or fashion.

Funny thing social media vegan’s seem relentless however, Salt Bae has captured the imagination of very very marketable people with stunning butchery skills and cooking. It’s surprising via stories how well celebrities eat David Beckham is an unreal foodie.

Many thanks for the suggestions. I haven't attempted to rank them, so in the order suggested plus a couple of my own:

Adam Henson
Helen Skelton
A sporting collective
Jeremy Clarkson
Hugh Fearnley Whittingstall
James Martin
Jay Rayner
Tom Watson
Salt Bae
Tom Kerridge
Sara Cox
Joanna Blythman

Advertizing pays:
Sir Mo Farah increased sales of Quorn by 17%.
Beefy and Lamby increased national beef and lamb sales by 4% and 5% respectively.
Regional campaigns have had notable success; One northeast (a former RDPE region) increased lamb sales on their patch by 17%.

We live in different times. It is not enough to promote red meat as tasty and convenient. The industry needs champions who possess the right mix of intellect and common touch to get across the message that eating beef and lamb is a key component of an environmentally responsible diet.
It's a complex subject, but a simple message. Save the planet: Eat red meat. The farming industry is crap at getting that message across, it should recruit some help.

Unfortunately it's not just a matter of saying it once, it has to be said time and time again year in year out and clearly identified as grass fed welfare friendly. And to go on the offensive about the massive environmental and potential human damage a vegan diet will deliver globally.(y)

yes others work on the principle that if you say something often enough people believe it and remember it so our own message needs saying over and over or it just gets lost
