I thought it looked quite modern. ;)
Fine line between 'Over-paid poisoners of the environment in £150k self propelled' and 'straw chewing yokel'.
We see it as 'modern efficient operation' but public just see the shiny toys. :(

Really? I think that presupposes that the public have enough knowledge to determine what 'shiny toys' represents. We as farmers might look at a picture of a well maintained but older second hand tractor and sprayer outfit, and think 'Thats a cheap setup he's got there, very efficient', the public would see no difference between that and a shiny new one.

I mean if the BBC wanted to portray an image of the construction of the new HS2 railway, would they show a picture of a few steam shovels or a load of men with wheel barrows and spades? Would the public consider that the people building a railway that they are going to travel on should be using the best most modern equipment possible, or machinery from the 1950s?

Please, PLEASE. NFU, anybody, @Guy Smith try to get the BBC to change the picture of someone’s grandad spraying in about 1955 to something more representative of farming today !!!

Better to show this than some massively expensive 36m ‘wildlife killer’ preying upon our landscape and reinforcing the public perception of wealthy farmers destroying billions of all those environmentally friendly creepy crawlies.

If you want to be taken seriously by the public you need to show a high tech modern and professional image

Did anyone see the bbc breakfast set they pulled after uproar on Twitter ? - it looked like a nativity scene complete with donkey and handcart !!! More like cheap pub than any version of modern ag food production I know

The BBC won't get rid of their spraying pictures because they have an agenda and because they're too lazy. It wouldn't be difficult to find much better pictures, there are 1000s of them on this forum alone, but even if someone sent them the pictures from the TFF calendars they wouldn't use them.

I did write to the BBC to complain that in their Horizon programme, amongst other examples or bias and misrepresentation, they used video footage of irrigators watering crops in the context of talking about pesticide application. They replied that it was for illustrative purposes only and viewers would place it in context. No doubt we can soon expect a programme on candy-floss manufacture using footage of Chernobyl going up.
