How many were employed at its peak some impressive farming going on there with some excellent quality stock and crops
At one time in the winter (carrots, sprouts and cabbage seasonal staff) we had 50 on about 800 acres. About 30 all year round. Here are the June census returns from 58 to 60

I remember Dad buying a front and rear bale moving set up exactly the same as that from a sale when I was maybe 10, about 1980.

He also had a McConnel hedge cutter like yours but I don’t remember ever seeing it being used. Flail trimmers had been bought by local contractors by then and they did our hedges for years.

Hoeing or singling for a penny a chain was never a right lot of fun.
Nice pictures and good to recall fond memories of the craic with the gang.
A great deal of that work was done by women. Talk about sexual harassment in the workplace, they were something to be feared! :D
