At one time in the winter (carrots, sprouts and cabbage seasonal staff) we had 50 on about 800 acres. About 30 all year round. Here are the June census returns from 58 to 60

Another super film. Many of us forget some of the machines / techniques that got superseded

I remember Dad buying a front and rear bale moving set up exactly the same as that from a sale when I was maybe 10, about 1980.

He also had a McConnel hedge cutter like yours but I don’t remember ever seeing it being used. Flail trimmers had been bought by local contractors by then and they did our hedges for years.

I spent many hours setting random dumped bales into heaps of 15. In those days we used to buy 5 tons of sisal string, so there were several to do!

Keep seeing the British support vehicles; Bedford CA dropside, Landrover 88in canvas tilt , Seddons, Leylands. Smashing to see and sad they’ve all been lost at the same time

Hoeing or singling for a penny a chain was never a right lot of fun.
Nice pictures and good to recall fond memories of the craic with the gang.
A great deal of that work was done by women. Talk about sexual harassment in the workplace, they were something to be feared!
