Sadly he has not replaced staff over the years gone from folk leaving or retiring so now there is only one in each department as such with no cover
I do all the milling/machining
Another does wire erosion
Another does spark erosion
Anybody else left does all the fitting/remedial work.

As for 20 years service yes I could have left and earned a lot more else where to the tune of £150 / week more, which he knows this also. but it is on my doorstep 2 min drive away. I take the reduced earnings for the flexibility of if there is a problem back home on the farm I can nip home / go early /come in late. Just so long as I make sure no one is waiting for work off me everything is fine.
You really need to work for him for a few months to understand but he really is a shitcunt.

I know a couple of people in a similar position to you. Boss becomes greedy and strips the company to it's bare minimum and piles on the pressure for those good and loyal staff that stay. My best mate is an industrial sparky and a very switched on one at that. His boss built his business around his abilities and contacts but paid him the same as a general electrician and didn't invest in him or training anyone to follow him. Eventually my mate stuck two figures up at him, left, took 60% of the business with him and 2 members of staff and started up on his own. His old boss is now working out of his van, had to rent out his workshop and has 1 member of staff. Sometimes these arrogant pr!cks need to learn the hard way they can't treat people like sh1t! No boss is worth being unhappy for!

Just coincidence, but Council are laying another beam in the lawn cemetery to increase capacity

View attachment 867611View attachment 867612View attachment 867613

Town just down the coast here is digging 30 extra graves in the church yard with the expectation that they will be filled in the not too distant future.

It is very strange times indeed and I'm f'ing glad I don't live in one of the big cities!

I too hope that this makes people appreciate their food and landscape a bit more but, refuse collectors are already saying there's a huge rise in food waste as the moronic panic buyers are now throwing out all the perishable goods they stocked up on without any concept that they might go off before they can be eaten.

The change required is a radical change in mindset and I worry that most people are too selfish and entitled to see that change is required. I hope I'm wrong.

I would say we have all had bosses that are not what you would call people friendly, but I take these things as a given these days so it is down to you to make the call if it is worth it or not.
Not many bosses will actually put themselves on the line for staff when faced with the current situations or risk going against the push from above if it shows them to support the workforce, as it is very risky to the longevity of any business / their roles. I learned a long time ago now that we are sadly only a number on the payroll, and if your face doesn't fit - you will be having a hard time.
Decisions made higher above can also have detrimental impact on the workers, and they do not give a rats arse who is impacted if it saves their own skin.
This is life, and you either accept it, move on - or sit and talk to him face to face and tell him what you think.. Then either you are out by their doing or you make the call.

Keep your chin up, it is tough out there ?

You say "This is life, and you either accept it, move on - or sit and talk to him face to face and tell him what you think" but it SHOULDN'T be like that.

The logical conclusion of that approach (accepting such appalling behaviour) is described in today's Private Eye where the Royal Mail sub-postmaster fiasco is laid bare. Imho ALL of the senior figures who played a part in that should be serving time for perjury and having their (huge) salary bonuses clawed back to pay the compensation to the postmasters who have served prison sentences because these people aggressively lied to the courts and the Select Committee. That includes Jo Swinson (ex) MP who had oversight of the Royal Mail for some of the time this was going on.

I understand what you are saying and I agree if we lived in eutopia - but lets face it; in this world we all live in - it will sadly never change in any significant manner in my lifetime I fear. It is here to stay and has always has been a them and us, and to this day; it has never been stopped by the powers that be as it is not in their interests on the whole or even seriously challenged to the point that the UK has provided the level of protection needed against this to offer any form of tangible fight against this treatment.

Just look at your employment rights for under 2 years service to see where I am coming from. The law is useless for protecting the working person against this kind of action, and seriously needs to change to remove this higher power from the top office leadership..

There is though an area that this is not so openly accepted but still happens, which is if one falls into any of the: disability, ethnic minority, trans gender brackets etc - they tend to be a lot less likely to behave openly in this manner, and are also far less tolerant of this in the workplace if raised, and this is purely because the lawsuit they would face is rediculously far higher than the average joe would get.

I also agree that the leaders should be taken to task but again, if you see some of the top management / leadership team rewards packages in their contracts, they have clauses in their contracts that mean they get seriously high rewards even if they fail, or even crash the markets...

Should I say the boss is the owner director etc. If I could video what he rants somedays you would not believe it.
Fudging lazy c^nts
Thick c^nts don’t know what there doing
Etc etc
If it went to any sort of tribunal as you didn’t like what he said you would have a field day with him.
When I first started there at 18 he was about 30 So didn’t say right much but he liked to rant and rave a lot. Once he bought the company well what a change into a proper arsehole happened.

Anyway let’s get back on track.

@Farmer Roy how did the weekend/evening seeding work out I hope everything worked well especially the tractor ?

yeah, sounds like he is a real shitcunt ( as an aside, shitf**kery also comes up on my phone with autocorrect when typing that:ROFLMAO: )

yeah, the weekend planting for the neighbour went well without a problem, also did about 20 ha of cultivation for him, before starting on my own work crushing the roly polys that you may have seen. Work at council on Monday, then back out in the tractor after work. At midnight I noticed oil at the front of the tractor, the ( recently replaced, second hand ) oil cooler was leaking. f**k . . .
Tuesday night cleaned it down, determined where the leak was & pulled it out. Dropped it off on Wed morning to get welded up ( to be fair, they did it free of charge ). Picked it up & put it back in - all good.
Trouble is, it’s rained a few times since then so haven’t had a chance to get back in the land ( we have heavy black clays which we DO NOT work when wet, makes a real disaster.
Have another weekend ( about 40 ha again ) planting job for another neighbour, but rain forecast for tonight & tomorrow, so won’t be doing it this weekend.
Gives me a chance to get budgets etc up to date for my upcoming bank review

Were all the solenoids stuck from lying unused for a year or so?

Good to hear machinery is running relatively smoothly. We all have machinery problems I think except @Kiwi Pete :bag:?? (sorry Pete )
My 16 month old Case is playing up a little with just over 200hrs on it but only came with 12 months warranty so hoping they will stand by it.
(Bloody diff lock stops working once it’s got warmish. I wouldn’t mind but I need it on these hills as it gets cross axel’d for fun.)

I suppose it’s a little ironic really at the moment that the rains stopping you working but I hope it’s doing more good than harm.

rain is good
look at all this greenery

I read all these anti walker posts on here & git orf my land posts & they don’t make sense to me

but then, we have a much lower population, more space & the only people who live next to farms are farmers
Also, our towns are much more open.
This is where I’m working today. Gunnedah is only a relatively small town but Council has something like 30 playing fields, sports grounds, parks & public green areas to look after. Not to mention all the walking tracks & foot paths - many of which I’m discovering for the first time
Our streets are wide & have foot paths along them also, so there are plenty of places to walk. I’m actually really pleased at all the people I see walking & jogging ( in isolation of course ) around town & using these areas
Glorious autumn day today
