We purchased a polled Hereford bull from a top breeder and calves have now got small horns, do you think they will grow into full adult horns, never used a poll befor but thought it would prevent dehorning. Would you take them all off now befor turn out.

I have said they are sorry to here that but never happened befor😥 the only animal we have owner that decided at three years old it would scour so bad and loose all it weight that we had to cull him, turned from a 4k young bull to a £400 cull. Plus hundreds on vet bills! Offspring seam ok, but now bought a AA to replace it.

You do realise that a carcass isn’t just made up of steaks?

Yes I’m aware of that think it’s something like 20% of live weight is steak... but if all the mince and shite is only sold at cost price which I highly doubt it is... that still leaves a hell of a Margin at £30kg for the steaks

You may find this page interesting. Not sure what steaks you had, but only around 2% of carcass weight (not lw) goes to make the dearest steaks.
Retail values of beast shown by cuts.
Not saying butchers are hard up, just its not all roses. (Or steaks😀)

Sometimes you can get what’s called a scur where the horns should be but those are proper horns that need to come off! Probably the bull was only fifty fifty polled not truly
