How would the Exlana’s maternal ability compare to the NZ Romney? Very impressed with the Romney’s maternal ability, not so impressed with the quantity of wool and associated work!

You know the ballpark you’re in with the Romneys….. Exlanas aren’t even in the same one, imho of course.

They do, of course, have less wool and associated work.

*just in case anyone thought I wouldn’t be along.;)

EasyDams are being used on a number of flocks to avoid twice a year shearing. Mix is Romney 50%; NZ Texel 25%: NZ E Frisian 25%. will have a couple of the latest imported rams on stand at NSA Scotsheep next week and others at Malvern NSA event in july.

Big Romney flock round here put shedding tups onto them for replacements. The professional shearing contractors said they where the worst ewes they had ever shorn from around the world. Romney wool welded onto the skin.

5 crosses according to Charley Walker.

Be cheaper than wholesale selling and buying. And you'd retain the adaptive genetics which suit the farm.

If I wanted to change from Romneys, think I'd definitely just sell them, get shedding ewes in and concentrate my efforts on knocking them into shape.

No disrespect to anyone here and I've never knowingly set eyes on you, but these chap's who are successful with Exlana's don a different style of hair cut to most/not all shepherd's, you don't think that's where your going wrong ? Perhaps making them feel unwanted/not at home. (This is a joke before anyone gets too wound up)
