I’m looking at a tractor in a dealers in Northern Ireland, it’s just out of England and is on UK plates. The VRT crowd are telling me I’d have to pay 23% Vat to clear it on to Irish plates, but I thought the Brexit deal was that any car/tractor etc that was built and originated in the UK was exempt from the 23%? Can anyone please clarify because it would make the tractor price very dear. It’s a New Holland built in Basildon. Thanks

Don’t know about tractors, but with cars you don’t have to pay the duty if the car was first registered in northern Ireland. If it was first registered in GB, the. You have to pay the duty.
I’ve noticed the phrase “suitable for export to ROI” on car adverts lately, ortherwise I wouldnt have known

I didnt realise there was import duty on tractor, only VAT, which If you were VAT registered, means it wasn’t charged. Best to ask the dealer

If it was on NI plates would that make a difference ?
Just before Brexit I sold a digger into Donegal. He gave me his vat number and I did not charge vat. What happened regarding import I don’t know.
