Been taking cattle for 15 years plus, really missed it the last couple years and now this has totally spoiled the excitement! Started the entries a couple times then stopped. Not worked out the actual rise in entries, it wouldn't bother me too much, but it totally flattens the excitement knowing half the farming people that go to the show and have a wander round the cattle lines aren't going to be there. Also the family and friends who come for an odd day if they can, they cant plan what days exactly so they aren't going to appear at the kist for a beer. Even my then Clydesdale banker who was based in Glasgow took her manager to the lines to see my cattle 3 year ago, they were delighted and it helped give them more of an insight into the cattle job for everyone's benefit not just mine. Livestock is what makes the show (or a big part of it anyway) and they certainly don't care what exhibitors opinions on things are.

At the 2015 Haddington Show they even had a flypast from the last Vulcan bomber on it's final 'farewell flight'.

It was supposed to fly over the 'Museum of Flight' at East Fortune (neighbouring) where lots of people had paid to see it, but it mistook the crowds at Haddington Show as it's intended audience instead!
Apparently the enthusiasts at East Fortune weren't happy.... 🤣
I was there in 2015 judging horses. We quickly told all the riders to get off pretty damn quick . 😂
It was an awe inspiring sight !👍
The show has a friendly feel to it , I think I’ll take the kids for a day out !

Another option for those interested in going to the highland show .
Don’t go, and wait a week for Haddington show . Free parking on the airfield, and a damn good day out .
And no I’m nothing to do with it !😂
Over here National ploughing Festival goes on for three days so weather wise take your pick. 190,000 through the gates in 2019, just pay at the gates and free parking. Something for everyone and back again this Sept. Will be huge I think after two year layoff. Well organised but still a bit rough around edges but always a great day out.

I go to the sport horse sales at Goresbridge most yrs , and I stay in leighlinbridge. The yr the ploughing match was nr there, there wasn’t a hotel to be had anywhere near . Finally got a hotel down at foulksmill, chuffing miles away !!😂

What %age of people attending the show do you think are actually directly involved with agriculture?

Was speaking to one of highland show directors and was shocked when he told me.

He said most people are quite happy to pre book ticket's. If your going to a concert or most other events that's what you do.

Oh just try again later sir, it’ll probably work then!

Got the members email through the other day.
Booked all four days even though in all liklihood I will only go for a day. Selfish? Possibly but as an actual producer could be busy with silage around then. Also not going to be beholden to picking a day and getting rained on. Expect many producers do the same, how many days attendance that uses up I have no idea, but could be a good few.
Will not book the car parking until I know when I am going

I think they expect members to book more days than they intended to attend, but it asked if you were not going to use all your tickets to cancel them once you have firmed up your plans to attend so they could sell them if the demand was there.
As a member I don't think they have much choice in what they are doing this year in order to control numbers attending, but I wouldn't like to see it continue for another year.

From what I hear, there was meant to be a Snow Patrol concert on there at the same time, which is now cancelled.
So there may now be more car parking space available than first planned.
Maybe the Snow Patrol lads will be at home doing their hay !😂🤦‍♂️

I used to go for 2 days every year when I was younger. Great show, good social life, met lots of folk for a catch up.
Had missed a good few years due to work and small children so we were going in 2020 but covid messed that up.

I did think to go this year but looking at it, 2 adults and 2 boys, one car parking space and that's the thick end of £90, we are 170miles away so add in another £60 odd in diesel to go down and back and that's £150 and you haven't bought any food or drink at show prices.
Then the risk of some bloody disaster or other messing up the plans and being stuck with tickets you can't use.
I've had a really crap year so far and as much as I'd like a while away from this place, lack of flexibility with tickets, and overall cost for a day away, I'm not going to bother.

If your there I will definitely pop by I spend my whole time at the stock lines, no interest in machinery
