Food Banks Whats Going On?

agree, tickles the ell out of me why plenty of rich retired get free swim, free bus etc. Family member just wont spend his money uses all the 'free' services he can when he can pay its not an issue and seeing that he spends thousands on holidays makes the whole thing ridiculous. Got too many retired at 55/60 making out they grafted so hard (I doubt it) going to be retired longer than they ever worked on £3k a month living in 5 bedroom housing. See it all the time as we do groundworks for extensions on these houses because they are bored and want a sun lounge/sewing room. Blocking the housing system and have a cheek then to moan about the heating bills and want all the freebies. I find it amazing the wealth of these retired and the brand new cars, 5 bed houses and expect to have the income for another 40 years. Not sustainable. I dread to think the income of many retired if both had final salary pensions could be in excess of £6k per month,

I plan to be wealthier in retirement than in work.

My father is involved with a lot of charity work and the local foodbank in my home town. They don't accept just anyone- you can't just rock up- and the people served by it are all deserving as I understand.

I have utterly no plan on retiring. Retirement is an activity that has a 100% fatality rate attached to it.
You can retire from one occupation and do something else completely different though . Maybe part time and/ or without the stress of running a business .

Tory MP says you can eat on .30 pence a day! While claiming £220,000 on expenses. My Mrs reckons you can't do it. Some days you can eat cheap, we love bubble and squeak, but you can't feed a family for ,30 p each a day.

Rather than food banks it is probably way more efficient to encourage more food kitchens. Could be co-ordinated by charities or even state funded to a degree and they could easily provide cheap nutritious meals.

That's not true because in my time we didn't have cookery lessons and I know how to cook. Miguel Barclay has lots of books about cooking for £1 which you can buy for a fiver, as does the attention seeker Jack Monroe.

I do think the issue around food banks and food poverty are complex though. Its not that everyone who uses them are fat and lazy. That said the food industry is pretty ropey for the shite that is promoted in processed food.
But you weren't taught how to cook at school were you ? I can cook but its from my Mum and my own enthusiasm. many people now just aren't interested on making their own meals when there is deliveroo.
