Combinables Price Tracker

Slightly off topic.
Ukraine (Russian) railway track inner gauge is 1.520mm and Europes railway track inner gauge is 1.435mm, so makes exporting grain out of Ukraine by railway not so easy as it would first appear
they either trans ship at the border
haul by truck to the border
or have seen where thy jack up and change the wheels (although not sure how practical that was)

if the war stops but the russian blockade continues with grain at current prices the ukraine will find a way of getting the grain exported in high enough volume
road trains with 3 wagons to terminals in poland and romania
they can produce the grain cheap enough

I reckon those that sold forward last year will hold out this year and get caught making the wrong decision twice.
Many will have seen 260 and sold in March
agent run farms the doctrine is sell at a profit or sell 1/3 pre harvest

the open interest on the London futures is 850000 tonnes

Some of last years pre harvest seller at 160 will have seen 260 and took it

storage and cash flow is often the motive for forward selling

long holders hold till after April every year

I was always under the impression that early ordering fert and selling a bit of grain forward secured the best hospitality on Leeches Row at Cereals.
