NFU won’t take on the argument as they think it’s one they might loose
The anti meat lot always revert back to the ratio of feeding cattle or sheep with grain and say humans should just skip feeding animals for meat and eat the grain
Bearing in mind most animals eat waste products at some point I think the NFU are missing a trick
It does seem the main voices of the industry would rather tow the line that there is a big problem and we need to act. All the media you read like farmers weekly is all pushing carbon reduction and net Zero.

More propaganda for consumers, how possibly can they compare food when it doesn't for example tell you if it grass based beef from the UK or intensive fed beef/horse meet from abroad, world going mad!
Load of lies
Ruminants don't have a global warming effect as long as their numbers don't rise,
Ask them one question, since ruminants have been on earth longer than we have if they were going to fry the earth why haven't they done so before ?

Bar the barley I feed.the rest are waste or bye product of something else.
Wonder what they'd do with it all of the livestock didn't eat it?

Didn't get a "good" winter as it was still far drier than normal.

Also lots have cut back on spring fertiliser applications so that stressed the grass as well.
Almost a perfect storm?

This week will affect those fields that were grazed the last 10 days for sure.
To put a more positive spin on it
We had a really grassy spring and although we spread very little fert [couple bags I had left over] we ended up with more bales than we have had for years.
not spread any expensive fert for second cut that wasn't going to grow very well anyway because its got dry.
Grass has held up really well, perhaps because it hasn't had fert to make it stress ?

yes and we have no mains water here so bottles for house,and a bowser lorry for stock taking a lot time just watering stock.
The river is so low here that the sheep can’t reach the water, I have pump it out and into ibc’s to water 450 ewes. Hell they are drinking some water. Hoper lambs are on spring fed that dryed up ages ago, might bring them to the sheds to make less work.

It's so important how these figures are arrived. A lot of it seems to be environmental creative accountancy so you arrive at whatever figure best suits your argument. But your supermarket punter will just look at the number and think they're saving the world by swapping a nice steak or lamb chop for some processed crap. On which, of course, the food processors make a bigger margin 🤔

I thought the SQQ was for in spec lambs and anything that wasnt in spec was excluded.
Yes its up to the vendor when they sell but if they're not ready for slaughter they should be sold as strores, if the vendor isn't sure if their lambs are fit enough then the auctioneer should advise and direct to the appropriate sale

Should be working with BFU to counter this crap, nope instead knocking somebody who is supposingly on same side, thats really going to help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We were fully up paid up members as a farm for 40 years , lost faith

So you want an organisation that your not a member of to work with an organisation set up because the other organisation wasn't doing what you wanted to do.......for free.

I agree this should be a joined up consensus to counter the constant barage of mistruths and lies.

I wouldn't expect the majority of folk will take a blind bit of notice

Had a very quick look at the paper. It’s based on our old friend Poore and nemeck and whatever is on hestia (anyone given permission for their data to be included?). Fancy graphics but lipstick on a pig which shouldn’t be difficult for industry reps to point out.

I get that but why the need for it in the first place. All this labelling crap just confuses the customer I find.

The most important element of 'environmentally responsible eating' is sourcing food locally and seasonally.
Supermarkets find it dificult to compete on those principles so are very happy to adopt a system that focus's on the ingredients rather than their origin.
They can't keep prices to a minimum if they commit to sourcing geographically.

Unfortunately I'm not going to get them there. Got them in this morning, and put one in the crush to retag it. It managed to smash it's way out, kicking the gate into my knee so I'm now not going very well. They then jumped on another gate and the gate post snapped cleared another 2 gates and away. 🤬 Anybody know where I can get some shorthorns?:scratchhead:
