Got round to giving the combine a dry clean with the leaf blower for winter. It never saw a drop of rain all through harvest which made cleaning it off a doddle having no caked on dust or mud to deal with.
Was quite surprised at the amount of very fine dust that had built up in places, most harvests have had their wet days when the combine has been outside and that dust usually turns to crud which you find in all the crevices, the beans were very dusty when combining and would account for the majority of the dust. Just shows how every year is different.
Then there's the age old gripe, why oh why do you always seem to finish the season with cutting barley? Still bloody itching hours after chasing dust around.

Friday again, another week gone, the lads and the 15:15 have been in overdrive this week.

Brother Paul has been finishing off the 225mm installation over at Kirby Mallory. Orders for me from Boss Man Chris were to prepare the invoice and the installation photos, followed an hour later by “hold fast on that” we have been asked to look at a wet spot. So not quite finished yet. Not a problem, as I keep saying, we like it when we have that “whilst you are here can you. . . “ chat with a client. They are back there today carrying out the wet spot work. Our excavations threw up a bit of nostalgia, they found an early bit of Wavin 60mm connected into some old clay tiles. Likelihood this was laid in the late 70's early 80's, over 40 years old! They also managed to find a blockage on the system, it was a little reminiscent of last Friday but this week it was a blockage in a land drain that got the hole bubbling, thankfully!

Boss Man Chris must have been overdosing on the carrots last week as he has been having a few early mornings with the big toys. Apparently nothing beats the quiet of the dawn in a CAT Challenger and Simba Solo to get some early morning cultivation done. The thing was it was not dawn, I would hazard a guess the milkman was still in bed!

Boss Man Chris, Cool Hand Luke and King Kev have been draining out near Throckmorton in Worcestershire. Currently 3 different fields to drain and the first one is a nice big field with good long runs. The field has a central ridge which meant a mains along opposite sides of the field. Both these mains had to run through a wooded area to their respective outfall, but that was no problem. The lads are back there today replacing the hedge with a new post and rail fence as we had to trim it back a little to be able to get to the outfall area.

I had an emergency call Wednesday, the lads were cracking on so well at Throckmorton there was fear that they may run out of pipe. So after putting my super man pants on over my trousers, hitched a trailer up to Celia (yes I named my car), loaded the trailer with 80mm, looked for something to tie them down with . . . . Have you ever had one of those days when all you need is just a wee bit of rope, string or a strap and all you could find were 3 x 2,000 metre long ropes. Well it seemed like they were that long. Been a while since I have had to tie a hitch but my late fathers words were ringing in my ears whilst roping the coils on. . . .”Try to keep it tidy but it doesn’t matter if it looks like a spiders web so long as it’s tight, nothing moves and nothing falls off!” Nothing fell off, or moved
😊
. Anyway, I got to site and was met by a laughing King Kev, he even slowed down on his way to get gravel to take photos and laugh at me, then on the way back slowed down to watch me unload!!
😊
The Cad!! At least Cool Hand Luke offered to help because he’s a helpful chap.

I have only ever seen the field they are currently draining at a 1:2500 scale whilst doing the drainage plans. Actually being in the field and seeing the adjacent buildings certainly did put a different perspective on things. . . IT WAS ALL SO VERY HUGE!!

I thought we had a large mouse problem in the office during the week. It wasn’t until the cuddly fella said “hello” in a muffly biscuit filled mouth manner that I realised it was Dillybob. Apparently “popping in to make sure everything is ok” was a code to get away from doing the garden and top up on his biscuit ration.

Extra big thanks for the graft and giggles this week lads. It is always very much appreciated but this week for giving up the Bank Holiday, thankyou. Have a rather marvellous weekend and see you all next week to do it all again. ‘Till then, stay safe and stay smiley
😊

Never would've thought i had to pull the old 'project' forage wagon out from the dust, bought it when i was around 14 it was half finished then, sort of finished it myself and actually used it for gathering some fresh grass for lambing ewes one year 🤣. We have some sheep on nature 'reserve' which has some marshland as well, the guy who 'manages' it all decide to let some of it get mown in the weirdest patterns and spots and they would clean it up with some volunteers, after 15 minutes of trying to rake it up and wheelbarrow it away they decided it was enough and didn't want to continue. So they asked me to rake it up and collect it, took me a day total; raking and picking up. Some places it could hardly get with this setup and it was really soft ground..., glad i didn't borrow conventional krone wagon to do it. The little wagon earned its stay 😂

Put some next years muck in a field heap.

and then very slowly chewed over some concrete hard 're-gen' experiment that had grown so many weeds that it is getting a reset with the plough. Millions of blackgrass seeds out there. Not one germinated yet despite straw raking some time ago. So I am trying the burial method.
