A 'pyramid scam' is a bit strong! What's the last page been, we're losing money on sheep so we'll put the boot in to somebody that might be making something out of it?? And then accuse them of racing to the bottom?
Horses for courses, the sheep trade is bewildering. What works this year might be a disaster next.

I donโt have a problem with other breeds but nobody is going to do a lot of good at ยฃ70-ยฃ80, whether they have a cheap system or not, we need to thrive not survive

Regards current price crisis: I used to think the Irish meat firms were real clever operators, not so sure now. They are maybe just starting to cotton on to the fact that they can't expect people to produce cattle for a loss forever. But they and their supermarket paymasters can't wait to stand on the neck of the sheep industry. The way the price is going now, they may well be guaranteeing themselves paying more next year as more folk pack them in!

I think what riles people is that they come across as wanting to rubbish other systems as a way of marketing their sheep. What other industry would argue that prices should come down. . I've seen them say tail docking and ringing is a welfare issue for example just to try and frighten (mostly new starters) into buying their sheep. They just hand the supermarkets and anti farming lobby the bullets to try and sell their sheep

Fair point, but the phrase 'permitted mutilation' wasn't made up by them. It's what's in the codes of practice. And the way things are going, would it surprise you if that permission was removed?

Well it will be if the sheep industry support it being removed! Then what will happen to the store lamb trade and of course it's another way of trapping people into only being able to sell deadweight
Trying justify there own bone idlenesses, I lamb mules out and ring the lambs but do have to get off the bike.
Yes. But it doesn't have to be that way what @Electricfencer and @Aspiring Peasants are talking about is a stockman problem selecting them all on data and probably drawing lambs on weight alone. Someone who did it properly would have noticed the lambs were finished before they were 4h and would have chosen rams with some shape not just numbers out of a catalogue.

I think AHDB must be doing a good job because every market report I read has fresh buyers buying on numerous accounts every week. Across the country there must be hundreds of new faces every week wanting prime lambs
