Just found some yorkshire boarding squirreld away for safe keeping no Doubt!
Could I use 2 planks think as some yard fencing or would that be too tight?

It's not for a holding area just somewhere the stock would walk past.

the greatest skill in bodging is to know when some valuable rubbish has become important in its own time, this is not just a matter of esoteric conjecture, its deeper than that and a bodger will know. Nail it up and post the pictures.

It might be a bit too good to use for that sort of bodge, better save it for a more important bodge, that's assuming you have got some slightly less good bits of wood, I always think salvaged yorkshire boarding is for good bodges.

Only having one tractor available so this year I made a prototype platform using 2 pallets, random 2x4 + 3x3 for support legs, some scrap wooden board and splurged on new nails to hopefully avoid it falling to pieces.

Tow chain secured to the bag in-case it failed to avoid damaging spreader/tractor, but was very stable overall.
Biggest risk was inside support legs (3 and braced) failing, but it would have happened during the placement most likely.

Definitely making a steel version of it, but need to buy a welder first (and learn how to weld).
Would allow me to transport 6-7 bags and park it closer to the remote fields for loading.

@Taenn, does the pallet have a shutter in it so that you can put part of a bag in the spreader, or is it whole bags only?
No shutter on this one.
Standing next to the platform on the trailer, knife cut 90% the width of the chute and disembowel in increments as the bag empties and lean over the spreader.
Some manual labor in order to empty the bag, but not too much once the cut got refined a bit.
I do have 2 Raimo dispensers that could be used if it calls for partial bag use.

For a proper version I'd definitely want the ability to use a spike dispenser, but would need the platform to have a hole in the middle to access the shutter.
That would've required way too much fiddling with pallets and I'd be very worried about the integrity.
Also need to build the platform a bit higher in order to get a spike version to drain over the trailer side chute.

Alternatively building one so the trailer side can be pulled down and using a flexi/coupling chute, but need to secure the rear support leg near the edge so the frame doesn't twist and topple over the side.
Next year's problem anyhow. 😌

Please share any progress. I've been thinking of something similar but not gotten to it yet.

Does the thermal panel take it over 65c? My immersions are set for 65 so switch off when hot.

its been up to 68 c at the top of the tank so far, might do again today with the way the weather is, that will mean its about 75 plus in the panel manifold, any much higher than that an the circulation pump will be getting a bit warm, he is rated up to about 110c or so i believe. but its not a pressurised system so it shouldn't get hotter than about 100 .
but we keep an eye onit .

But as a guide when the SF Rayburn is lit it can go up to 80c or so in the extreme got to use some of it it then .

There's no electric immersion element in our tank. i took it out/didnt fit one so no temptation to use it.

200ltr not big enough, really but bigger twin coil tanks are a lot more money
when i get to it and can figure it out i will add in an other tank i think, then the power that lights the light will either power up a diverter valve or another pump for times like now and store it over for awhile possibly although we havnt run out yet with sensible not luxury use .
atm its keep it simple as poss and suck it and see for the experience.
fascinating seeing the temp fluctuation/strength of the sun /variation on cloudy or cooler days, and very much makes you realise how important insulation is as well ,because hot water really doesnt store heat for any length of time well at all, never appreciated that fact until i did this.
