Fendt ideal

Weird how others who have driven the same machines say they are great to operate and got on very well with the joystick. But each to their own I guess. I can’t remember seeing anything positive at all in your experience either which is slightly odd. For example the joystick removes the steering wheel and column which gives a completely clear view ahead which is appreciated by all that have operated it in reviews I have seen. Aside from yours. But as you made very clear you will be sticking with Claas which I assume would be best for all concerned

Yes , But probably not been operating class combines before jumping on the not ideal.

This wasn’t a joystick steering model so could be a different setup with the steering version. I just couldn’t take to it at all though, it just didn’t feel intuitive to operate.

This is very true, I’d be extremely surprised if many owner operators go from a Claas to an Ideal. These estates who are buying them it will be the managers not the drivers who are making the decision.
But everyone is different just personally I couldn’t see myself spending a 16h plus day driving it especially in difficult conditions.

The problem Agco have is that everyone they are trying to sell the machine to people who are using Class or New Holland as the comparison and the operators appear underwhelmed. As humans we get accustomed to how a machine operates and if you are happy with what you have then why would you bother to stress yourself trying to understand a different control system.

Controls engineers are controls engineers not operators so a lot of the things the operator wants the engineer doesn't consider. Once you understand any machines control system, output can be optimised and this is where the demo driver is in essence the salesman and brand ambassador.

As processing power becomes more powerful more functionality can be incorporated into the control system but getting end user to understand and apply it is the hardest part - this is where there are operators and there are operators. The simplest analogy is probably microsoft excel which most people will have used but normally where only about 5% of its capability is applied in day to day operations. Microsoft engineers can get it to do impressive things but getting there needs a lot of intensive training and to the novice can be very frustrating.

You tube seems to be one of the best learning tools these days for everything so why manufacturers don't find operators who are maximising machine controls and get them to do videos don't understand. Competition can always hire a machine if they want to compare so not like proprietary information is being given away.

There is also the reality in that going into something with preconceived ideas or prejudice is likely to deliver the same outcome. Most are effectively like football supporters in that we have our team and no matter how good the opposition is we will deny or not acknowledge it because we don’t want to ! I spent years working as a test driver for Massey and they are ‘my team’. However as years have passed and I have possibly matured I have had to recognise their shortcomings too.

A general comment on combine harvester manufacturers. Olly Harrison is giving his Claas a good testing this season, not sure if the other makes would cope with what he's throwing at it, be it water, wet OSR straw or metal panels.

Just observation when they was first launched fendt was plastered all over them ,now I see that the name fendt has been replaced with the Massey Ferguson logo. Does this mean fendt are shining away from it?

You are absolutely correct. I have been puzzled for years as to why manufacturers don't make a lot more use of this media.

Would make everyone's life easier if operator (or even a potential customer) can just go one you tube and see how to set up better, navigate screens better, solve a problem.

Makes the manufacturer look like they are more included with the customer rather than just sell and forget about them.

Would help dealers as well. Often heard from reps/demo drivers about the amount of phone calls they get asking "how do i........." (even if most of that info is in the handbook 🤣)

Strange: an awful lot about Claas, a bit about NH, odd words about Case/IH, but not a peep from JD owners or operators.

Me:- Fendt/ Agco, I always thougt MF were crap anyway.
If it's got yellow paint it will do me!
Having said that my neighbour uses a contractor with a humungous Lexion on tracks which just eats the hectares up. BUT we generally get a dry harvest - all finished here by mid-July.

And just in case there is someone who still hasn't seen a photo of a Claas at work......................:
