Cull ewes much dearer at sedge today, quite possible by £25+ per head if not more!

Store lambs also much dearer on the week, the average of £82 ish head does not do the trade justice as you could not get much of a decent lamb for less than around £90 head.

Stirk trade, again numbers very short for the time of year and trade can only be described as sticky!

Store cattle, well the trade of the day, with around 600 penned selling to a much dearer trade yet again on the week for 3/4 month off kill cattle, shortage of top end short keep cattle is forcing large scale finishers to drop back a grade on size of cattle they buy to keep their pens full so these 3/5 month keep cattle would today be trading at levels last seen for them back in the spring when the prime price was £4.90+ kilo, suffice to say with a prime price at least 30ppk off that high the cattle looked exceptionally well sold today.

Top end cattle perhaps a shade dearer on the week but certainly not jumped in trade anywhere near as much as the next size down.

Well regardless of wether you like what I’m saying or not there’s a lot of truth in it.
There is some truth in it, as I'm sure there will be some folk that do subsidise their farming from their salary. But portraying every farmer who doesn't till the soil and tend their stock every waking hour as somehow cutting your throat is ridiculous.

Where do you think we would be if we had farming as only part time in this country? The government(s) have wanted cheap or cheaper food for long enough and pushed diversification for long enough I’m sure it would suit them.
You seem to be taking this personally please don’t the dawn till dusk brigade amongst us are as much to blame. However this is a price tracker there’s plenty of moaning on here about stock prices being left behind and there’s an increase in folks working off farm as the cost of a normal living increases. I can see it even if you can’t

Don't worry, I can see it as well. I'm just not taking all the blame!

You know who I really think is the problem? Suckler cow men that leave the bull in with the cows all the time. All those extra calves they're breeding are flooding the market and making life difficult for us block calvers. B@stards 🤬😄

When you say "sticks are sticky" , would you say they are worth a punt at buying ?

Yeah. Roll on the "we're loosing money, may as well accept a moderate rent" train of thought.

The cream will rise to the top.

and I'll be farming somewhere not far below!!
Unfortunately I don’t think rents will fall much because of environment schemes and outside money from people who want the lifestyle but have plenty of money from elsewhere

Dipped em yesterday...800 haircuts to give next starting on Monday!

Funny that a post like this should come up when the debate has centred around labour for the past 24 hours. Imagine all the proper work that would get done if everybody just stopped dressing gimmers overnight. The sheep would be exactly the same at the end of the day!
