FW letter regarding Wye Poultry Farms

Anyone read it?

Seems scandalous that farmers will be forced to "sell" their poultry litter to a single company.

A cynic would think there's some vested interests and money changing hands to get the poultry litter market tied up....

House of lords overturned the govs decision to let house builders off since this letter was published. I dont think they will leave farmers out of pocket or they will just stop farming chickens surely. It will be interesting to see if the rivers improve or not for less poultry litter being spread. Contractors who were spreading the muck will be out of pocket.

Can’t the farmers just tell Avara to sling their hook?

I see no reason why not….i guess it depends whether they can work with another company instead.

If it’s a choice of comply or give up then that’s a bit more tricky.

It also depends whether another chicken company aren’t going to follow suit and require the same of their farmers.

I hope for those farmers that my fears for them are unfounded.

Is it any different to Avara and others making their suppliers (Farmers) buy their feedstuff from them?

I would be surprised if it was a money making scheme for Avara, more about trying to minimalise (and to be able to prove it) any pollution from their chickens.

If course their suppliers (farmers) could tell them to stick, but have you seen how many chicko sheds have popped up in the border country over the last few years? Many of them on borrowed money, secured against against the farm itself and on 3 month rolling contracts.
