Anyone got the 9” grinder and find the 12ah battery overheats if doing a chunk of cutting? To be honest for the price I find it a bit rubbish

I've never done enough cutting to see if it overheats i'm afraid, anything more than a couple of cuts and i resort to the 230v grinders as it's fairly underpowered- out of of 30+ Milwaukee power tools i have/had since they first started this is the only one I've been disappointed with.

Had a bit of a shock this week as due to various reasons , I went and collected all my Milwarkee tools from all the sheds and vechicle s and found that I have 28 tools , 16 batteries and 6 chargers !
Thought it would be half that . Really impressed with them all although just recently my first battery has failed ( 6 years old) and my oldest impact gun , one of 3 ,( 8 years old) , the brushes have worn out so currently non working awaiting repair .

No doubt they get warm. Mine is the smaller grinder but on hoof trimming it manages to drain a 5Ah genuine battery every sixth foot. That’s three cows. The 3Ah batteries seem to last almost as long but turn the disc slower.
Fast charging or discharging/heavy-constant-use results in battery heat.

I find the 5amp are good for about 15 minutes on the 4,1/2” grinder and the hoover, in constant use.

My battery gives the overheat warning. Ie the flashing lights that stop it working Way before the 12ah battery is flat. Normally I can use half the battery get the flashing lights. Have to let it cool for half an hour carry on cutting.
As it was a Milwaukee set 9” grinder and 12ah battery it seems a bit rubbish that you cannot use the battery for the whole of its discharge without a half an hour break in the middle

It is a limiting factor, no doubt, and one where corded power tools are superior. The 12Ah battery with a high draw tool is a combination that will produce heat. What you should do is compare the Milwaukee 9” grinder under constant heavy use with the same duty cycle using DeWalt, Makita, Skil, Hikoki Metabo, Hyundai and other equivalent tools.

I seriously doubt that any cordless 9” angle drivers are rated for continuous heavy duty use even with twin batteries. I haven’t priced such a beast but surely a 9” grinder with twin large capacity batteries will be a very expensive beast indeed relative to corded?

To be honest I only have two Milwaukee tools rest are dewalt. The grinder which I bought for a specific remote job I couldn’t do with an 4.5” and the Milwaukee tyre inflator. The grinder kind of does the job for £350 is a bit of let down. And the inflator I have had that a week and found it great but it cuts itself out as it seems to read the pumping pressure rather than the actual. So you just end up having to manually sit with it.

so to be honest I think I will carry on with dewalt unless there is a specific tool dewalt don’t do as I have so far found Milwaukee rather underwhelming

If you have mostly DeWalt batteries then it makes sense to stick with the brand. I have no great affinity to Milwaukee, just that I started to use them and got into the M18 family, so to speak. I could have bought a 12V rotary tool, similar to a Dremel, from another brand and did get a corded genuine Dremel that lasted 15 minutes maximum. Didn’t think about another brand to replace it other than a cordless Milwaukee. I’m sure other tool brands are just as good, possibly better in some cases. The rotary tool has already done a few jobs, like polishing the rust off the inside bushes of a nine time fork bar I’ve had in stock for five years and am finally getting around to fitting, complete with all new tines. The little wire brush did an excellent job in no time at all. Since this light little tool is not for heavy duty constant use I went with two non-genuine batteries. One money saving aspect of sticking with Milwaukee even for the 12V tool is that the 18VFuel battery chargers also charge the 12V batteries using ports that are standard. So no need to buy another charger.

My inflator pumps to above the required pressure, stops for a second, checks the tyre pressure, then runs again, sometimes several times until the tyre pressure is where you want it.
Can’t fault tbh, other than you can’t have the presets low enough for atv tyres.

mine seems to do that but then after a few goes seems to get bored and just stops normally 6-8 psi lower than what i actually want. Its a handy thing but so far my milwaukee experiences have been a little underwhelming

I needed a new pivot head ratchet as other one was stolen, haven't used it yet but it is heavy and nice to the touch 🙂.

Some of there hand tooks are pretty beefy and look decent.
