Perfect Suckler cow??

Over the next few weeks we are expanding are suckler herd and reducing the sheep numbers. We make are suckler cows out of the beef calves born off are dairy cows. At the minute we run alot of Lims and Charollais. With the plan to bull therm with a Bazidaise, Charollais or Blond. I’m after a cow that will wean a calf as close to 50% of her weight as possible. The thinking is to use 1 of the following breeds to get the cows:
Charollais
Saler
Stabilizer
Angus
Lincoln Red
Longhorn
What would people use? The ground isn’t the best that why I’d use more native and lims don’t really work up in these fields. The image isn’t the best but sort of show the area and ground they’ll be in.
Tony mind best sucker cow is a limmy put to a BBxFreisian you then muscle and milk from the dam and easy fleshing from the sore. You can put that to any bull and get grand shaped growths calves

Another vote for shorthorn. Live on fresh air, can never stop them putting flesh on. Calves have a ready trade at any age post weaning and mothers milk very well. Only issue I've had past couple years is feet, but I think it's more to do with the type of ground we run and stopping them getting too fat. They've been out in all the shite we've had lately and seem fine, only bringing them in now as have a load of baleage to use up. Would normally bring them in in December.

Can we see some pictures of your superior herd out of interest?
Superior?
LimxBB cow wintered on straw and silage 50/50 calved on its own in April turned out onto rough going 1500ft plus calf from a double F94L gene bull calf had no creep

Bad to beat the limousin, be £1500+ that , at 6/7 months of age
Yes that’s where I am with this discussion too. That new bull seems to be doing the business on the very average cows. That cow is one of the worse end that’s why I put her on. If I can get cows like that to breed a half decent calf the better end will be a premium. Those better end cows are appearing with something better than that. That’s probably the cheapest way it can be done up here. I like being on with cattle and calving I wouldn’t be opposed to cashing in some beast sooner and calving a few more cows. That was the intention 2/3 years ago
That cow is probably only worth £800 if I sold her the better end of cows are breeding these

Good calf that one yes.
Superior was the terminology you used for the breed you use. Diffrent farms and diffrent systems would have other breeds considered superior.

I currently run 3 limmy bulls. I will change to any other breed that’s better, that’s why we are having this discussion
Thats what I think, for example there is a chap not far from here sells load of Hford bulls, I could go and buy one from him if I thought it would do a better job for me, can soon change if the market does but until then...

Have you any pictures of your cattle ?
I dont have any breeding stock at the moment but always toy with the idea of bulling some of the dairy cross 1s.
