Has anyone ever used battles black fluid disinfectant with sheep dip whilst dipping? Heard of someone using it to stop post lameness, never heard of this before, doesn’t sound right!

I am assuming it is phenolic based.
Would it not get you close to using the "old fashioned" border/jason type dip.

A lot of dips had a recommendation on them for using a disinfectant to prevent lameness but the principle thing is to keep the dip fresh and definitely don't save it for tomorrows gather unless you do put plenty of disinfectant in. Green sheep coming oot the dipper is never a good sign.

Back in the day, there used to be a sachet of disinfectant powder with the dip. That powder was to add to the dip at night, if you wanted to carry on with the same dip the next day.

No reason at all to add disinfectant to a freshly made up dipping bath, as the bacteria responsible for post-dipping lameness (erysipelas iirc) hasn’t had a chance to multiply up.

We use battles black fluid in with the dip right from when it’s freshly mixed (probably wrong) get no post dip lameness. Not sure if it’s a coincidence but we think it helps clean up scald and orf too. No evidence for it just an observation

We had an issue when we had the erisipilas bug in our dipping tub. Bought in as we buy store lambs in bunches of sheep probably only a couple of bunches who were !ame. Anyway as we jab then the injection site was not healed as we were dipping within a day of two. Allied to that we were not cleaning tub out after each batch (doing 200 ish at a time). The bug was in the tub and entering through the injection site and every sheep in that weeks bunch would go down chronically lame within a month and every one we had to turn over and treat. We now are very keen not to buy any lame sheep if we can and clean tub out every time. Also allowing Jab site to heal longer before dipping. Linco spectrum powder mixed with 75% water 25% fairy liquid cures footrot remarkably well the fairy being the sticking agent to the clee hence the success.

Linco seems a thing of the past now. Our vet simply will not supply it now. We don’t have a chicken shed.

A teaspoon in the fairy liquid bottle standard size. Start with empty bottle then fill with the water then top with fairy then shake in that order.Linco will go a long way as your not just squirting and it's splashing off clee with water only.probably goes 10 times further.

Erisipilis won’t cause lameness in their feet, it will effect their joints. We have had it in lambs in the past, causing joint-ill a few weeks after tails/balls have dropped off. Vaccinated against it for decades now.

vet said it was? Although whatever germ it was classed as was going through their system to their feet via injection site. This has stopped now with to one dip one tub policy and extra time between injection and dipping--- again on vets advice.
