GFC disgrace: Here's what NFU, AHDB and RT have signed us up for

I understand we have made many of those points directly at the Ownership body and on the Main Board.

In fact we have been making these points within RT for more than 2 years.

We are also scoping out a fundamental independent review of the whole of assurance in the UK, and C&O is conducting a specific study into the requirements for assurance in grain markets from all sources (RT, SQC, NI and imports) and how these are met. This study will help inform the wider review of assurance in general.
On regard to the grain imports research...

David E went through it with me at York, researching what the import/trade assurance requirements are.

Afterwards I realised he'd said nothing about finding out actual data.

I emailed David the other day and said we thought it imperative that a good amount of actual lab test data is collated.

Think it's EFISC-GTP which has a little clause in it which says the grain doesn't need any expensive lab tests if the destination mill has its own sampling point and intake procedures.

Could the proposed blueprint be extended to get actual lab test data? I presumed this would have been the main aim of the project?

Julius is on the Council, so maybe Carr's can start the ball rolling , as he had all the lab test results in his hand?

Isn't WWF just a wildlife charity ? Why are they dictating policy and being listened to? Pls excuse my ignorance.
I was just the same as you - couldn't understand what it had to do with the World Wildlife Fund and thought it must be a confusion with something else with the same initials. So, I had a a 'google'....

Seems it's all got a bit sinister at the WWF...
They aren't dictating policy, they are just the public facing front to give it a veneer of cuddliness. They agreed to have Dave Lewis planted by the cartel as their Chair of Trustees, in return for £.

Well I always try to look on the light side of things, but this is extremely serious!

we’ve got the likes of red tractor taking membership money off us supported by various other organisations then going running off to the supermarkets to help them instead of the people ( us ) who are paying them.

I don’t fully know what the answer is but do now know why all these organisations are been so uncooperative and downright hostile to the farmer members.

sooner or later a legal angle is going to be discovered, an awful lot of people are going to be answering some very difficult questions, payouts will have to be made and picking up soap in showers is going to be very painful!

When you look at it's financial reports you can see whose dictating it's policy.

Sadly, we as taxpayers are also funding WWF UK to the tune of hundreds of thousands of pounds a year

I would like to thank @Levy Believer for coming on to here and trying to justify the AHDBs actions and opinions. I understand that often you, personally, will not be the right person to answer the important and pressing questions being put to you. Could you please go back to the AHDB and ask people that will be in positions to be able to answer these questions to join us here and fill us in about what’s been going on?

At the moment, AHDB is seen as being ‘on the wrong side’ of farmer’s opinion about the GFC and is being lumped in with RT, BRC and NFU. I think this is a particularly critical time for AHDB; the proposal is on the table to raise levies so we really do need to know whether AHDB is for us or aggin’ us.

We need clarity and honest answers from the people within AHDB best placed to give them. If no-one is available or willing to give those answers, then we are simply left to draw our own conclusions; if AHDB will not support farmers to the hilt then that raises existential questions about the future of the AHDB.

Absolutely disgusting the way they are carrying on.

I'm livid about this, and I hope British Farming Union will hold NFU, RT, AHDB and the other farming unions to account over it.

Read on....

According to F Weekly article, Red Tractor planned to introduce the GFC to help several supermarkets meet their “WWF basket” commitments to source 50% of produce and grains and 100% of meat from environmental schemes by 2030.

So, I decided to look up what the "WWF basket" actually is.

Remember, the GFC aims to help supermarkets fulfil their "WWF basket", and introduction of the GFC was "unanimously" agreed by the Red Tractor ownership board.

Well, take a look at what NFU, RT and AHDB have signed us up to...

I'm not entirely certain if AHDB agreed with the GFC or not? No-one seems to want to say.

All we know is RT said it was a "unanimous" to have the GFC launched.

If, as per the FW article, the GFC is linked to the WWF Basket, then either the farming organisations are selling us down the river, or they haven't done their homework and researched what the WWF scheme means. Either way, it not good.

Apparently association with the WWF Basket was in a GFC document from a couple of months back, so they can't say they didn't know about it. Did they actually read up on what it was they were wanting to sign us up to.

I'll reserve judgement on AHDB, but if they knew about the WWF Basket (which it look like they should/would have done), then they should have known GFC was linked to the WWF scheme, and that WWF blueprint was calling for 20% less dietary meat and a reduction in meat/dairy advertising spend.

NFU said the GFC "principle is right", and RT said backing for the GFC was "unanimous".

I don't speak for the BFU, the members speak for themselves, but personally I think it looks like an awful decision to agree to GFC and it's involvement with the WWF Basket.
