EA or the Post Office - compare and contrast?

Like many, this week, I watched the mini series "Alan Bates versus the Post Office" . Like many I was horrified by the arrogance, institutional blindness and lack of compassion in the Post Office management.

As we see widespread flooding throughout large tracts of England and have read of many instances of the release of sewage, lack of dredging and, again, institutional blindness can it be argued that the EA is the next Post Office/Horizon scandal?

Surely there are no instances of the EA abusing its position and making an example of individuals (- you are the only one)?

What will it take to stop the EA in its tracks and turn around our waterways, to make them fit for purpose again?

They only got so far because some anonymous people, with a lot of money, backed the solicitors, as they could see the wrongdoing. Without this, nothing would have come to light, and those poor folk would still be stuck with criminal records. There was no justice in the end, with those within the PO being protected.
But the PO are not the only ones who think they are above the law. Most large Government organisations are teflon plated and the ordinary person has no chance if they try to point out a problem. They will, at best, be ignored, or worse, victimised.
This was clear with the River Lugg guy.
You have to have deep, deep pockets to get justice sometimes.

Will the public outcry - for now? - around this story bring any change of heart? The legal actions are not over yet but it will still take time and (more) money.

Or have these organisations become so cynical that they will just continue to act beyond the law?

Nobody working in the public sector is totally untouchable mind. You just need to know who to write to. (y)

iirc , she was put in to make the PO profitable so it could be sold off , i have no doubt she was pressurised from those above her on certain issues , EA and NE should take note ,
There are calls for prosecutions and a return of the cbe from PO woman , bl*dy good job , should think this would be the minimum .

Those within the public sector are unaccountable, firstly they are protected by their seniors, the complaints procedures are unfit for purpose, even if the matter is taken further, you'd be lucky to receive a simple response.

A good example is the planning departments, applications are on hold for months for some, the planning officers can't be bothered to reply nor can their seniors, if you push them harder they refuse the application.

Another good example of this is the police......totally internal complaints process, partly set up to look like it's independent.

I was thinking just this while watching, the title could have quite easily have been Mr Price Vs the Environment Agency with some very minor tweaks.

The program won’t fix the system but hopefully public pressure may help the poor individuals wrapped up in the post office mess.

Maybe the producers might be interested in that as a sequel!

More Sub Post Masters have come forward since the programme. If you feel strongly about the whole thing, Alan Bates, the leader, has asked you to write to your MP. If every MP gets a few letters, maybe the poor people in this awful mess will actually get fair compensation. Please write, remembering the anger you felt at the end of the programme.
