Hedge trimmer window guards

small weld mesh wire ones are fine get used it no prob. need to be fixed off bit else the glass will still shatter after a sharp hit
years ago the boss had a piece of barb wire get thrown at the window went thought via smashing and out the other side of the cab just missing him .

he got the new door window fitted right away but is was of that bullet proof very tough type clear plastic i forget the name, only trouble with that was that after awhile it went a bit cloudy /couldnt keep it pristine clear like you can glass.
it stayed on the tractor till he sold it tho if i rember correctly.

smaller door and side window was better for it on old tractor cab imo because easier to protect /fix guard to and that cab pillar aided protection to a degree.

lots of glass is great to see out of but steel is better to protect the driver in more ways than one on tractors imo.

Hard to win with it really. One inch weld mesh hurts your eyes, and the Perspex guards soon go cloudy. Now have strong rubber flaps on the front of the flail head, this helps enormously in keeping the crap away from the tractor,at the expense of work quality.

Fine 25mm mesh on side window and polycarbonate sheet on cab door, polycarbonate mirror on left side.lots of scars from things hitting cab side. 3/4 tanalised ply guarding on side of bonnet. 3 mm plastic sheeting cover over diesel tank. Surprising how many times bits of old rusty barb wire stuck in guarding. I would never cut hedges without guards.

Just get a longer reach trimmer, keep the head further away
how tf can anyone spend all day looking through 1 inch mesh is beyond me
You don't see the mesh after a while but you do see all the rubbish that gets stuck between it and the window as well as endless smashed blackberries and so on smeared on the window that you can no longer clean.

The mesh I fitted to my side window is on some hinges bolted to the door hinge bolts, so to clean glass I just open it to clean window daily. Never had a problem looking through mesh, (only been hedge cutting 20 yrs this year 😱). never see it when watching brusher head. I'd rather look through mesh than polycarbonate I have on door.

Hme window guard very pleased with it, you do get used to looking through mesh, did use Perspex guards for yrs before, but absolute nightmare when it’s wet and they scratch easily.

Any one got a bonnet and mudgaurd cover , like cunningham covers make ,
got a fresh tractor and big hedger coming ,
When i changed the tractor 2years ago got a Cunningham cover great job stopped using mesh on the side at the same time. I lost a couple of doors and windows with mesh on as well on so no real advantage

What usually breaks the glass?
Is it wire, stones, cutting too much off and a big stick gets you or is it just random bad luck?
Is there something you can avoid doing to greatly reduce the chance of damage?

Best thing I’ve found is the rubber flaps on the front of the flail head. Most new ones already have them I think, but made a vast difference on my older one.Does reduce quality of work slightly tho.

even bit of hardwood will do it.

even had a case once whereby had a bang on the window by small bit of wood nothing broke. carried on no prob.
later that night ,
Tractor parked outside over night in a hard frost , next morning i found the window shattered .

wire caught right is vicious see my post above.

if it hits you in the neck or chest like the bloke that was killed back along,he wasnt on the tractor though .
