What plough for 200 acres

Have two ploughs picked out, one on standard depth wheel and the other with the wider tractor tyre type wheel, would you say the wider depth wheel is an advantage in sticky conditions (especially when ploughing down freshly spread liquid manure)

No real advantage in ploughing the most of the field but they carry a lot better when trying to run the last run of the endrig shallow

Well we ended up buying a new KV ES85-200 5f on no.28 boards, single disc, big depth wheel, hydraulic variwidth and hydraulic front furrow. Might sound mad for our acres, but second hand stuff holding very strong money and will inevitably need money spent on it, so I felt the cost of ownership over say 12-15 years would be no worse on a new one than second hand, plus 0% finance and 40% tax savings through annual investment allowance make the new machine attractive.

Thanks for all the help and advice (y)

Check the wear on the legs it's an inherent kv thing and don't know why kv haven't sorted it out yet. Can see those have been plated, they all need plated just make sure it hasn't been left too long before plating.
Plates here for our ES85. Legs are still fine but I want to do them while they’re still good.
Hardox plates.

Just building myself up for a good days work as I’ll be taking each pair of legs off to weld them.

We went from 3 furrows on 16” to 4 furrows when we got over 300 acres/year to plough. So i think you should consider your budget and how much you value time spend ploughing over money spend on purchase. Don’t buy one too cheap, as it will get expensive to run.

We plough somewhere between 600 and 900 acres/year with a 5 furrow Kverneland eg100 now. I don’t plough everything anymore, so it varies from season to season depending on weather and crop rotation.
