What plough for 200 acres

Looking for a plough, 200 acres mainly arable and the odd bit of grass for reseeding. Tractors available Fendt 718 and TM190 both on 650 tyres

Mixture of land types - 50/50 between flat reclaimed silty soils and steeper ground on medium to heavy clays with plenty of big stones. High rainfall area

Never owned a plough before but it's another job we're going to take in-house. What to go for?

Thinking 5 furrow and skimmers?
Discs on all or just on the back?
Slatted or solid boards, and what width to suit 650's. Usually aim for a 16 inch furrow and around 7 inches deep.
Do we need vari width?
And are there any brands to go for/avoid? KV or Lemken seem to hold their value

Iv a nh, very pleased with it, opted for it over a kv and happy with that decision

That's a good amount of horsepower for 200 acres. You should easily be able to pull 5 furrows and able to plenty of extras to the plough.
If you have big stones I would get auto reset.
I don't have hydraulic vari width but people that do tend to be able to keep the ploughing straighter.
Only get one disc on the back.
Do you have a budget? New will be quite pricey. What ploughs do people locally have?

KV on 28 boards seems to be the plough of choice around here, easy to get parts and easy to sell. Can't find one at the moment second hand but was told around £32k brand new which is far more than I am happy spending.

I have been offered a 2017 Lemken Juwel 7 on BS40 slats, been through workshop and sitting on new metal where needed. She is hydraulic auto reset, hydraulic depth wheel and front furrow. But someone has told me they are a lot heavier to lift than a KV due to sitting further back from the tractor. Price around £14k which I'm not sure if it's good value or not?

KV on no 28's or the Ovlac equivlent, No56's is important if you're on tyres as wide as that. One disc at the back, skimmers important.

I bought a 4yo new shop soiled 5f Ovlac on no56's hyd vari width and maize skimmers for £12k.

Don't go too cheap, especially with a big horse on the front, you'll get sick of mending it

It's not the width of the furrows that matter for 650 tyres it's the board design. Can only talk kv here but the no.28 mould board fits on the same frog as a no 8 mould board with just a longer stay, but the 28 moves the soil across that much further to make room for the wide tyre.
So any plough using kv 28's or other manufacturers equivalent will do.

you will get a tidy plough for less than 10k

Loads of people plough on 650s if they have the right boards fitted. 580s probably would do a better job though.
How many spool valves have each of the tractors got?

Can the rear furrow be dropped off certain ploughs to take them down to a 4 furrow? We have one field which is incredibly steep across the final 5 acres and contractors have always made a bit of a mess on it. I would nearly consider a 4+1 just for that reason as it is a total pig to plough. Or can any 5 furrow be converted down to 4 furrows? It would need to be easy to do in the field to be worth the bother

I have never done it but I would have thought if you have hydraulic auto reset it would not be straightforward.
