GFC was to go ahead - now not going ahead

Arla have already developed something akin GFC for their milk producers.
level of farmer engagement is voluntary, but is reflected in price received by the farmer and so far they have been fairly successful in getting this to have monetary value from supermarket (and other) buyers. If GFC is brought in to give this information to buyers for free via RT then all the value Arla created is lost.
It’s not a premium though is it. Or do you believe them when they say it is?

Problem is we all moan and groan about rules and schemes they throw at us but in the end up accepting it and they know we will accept it . We don’t pull together like our European farmers and say no will we not accept this sh!t.
Part of me wants them to launch the GFC on April 1st as I think, for the first time in my lifetime, there's enough anger in the farming community to get it stopped and, hopefully, to severely damage RT at the same time.

It does feel like the attempted introduction of the GFC could be a bit a turning point. Agree, or not the whole Carbon market is going to be a feature in the very near future. Our industry has never needed to stick together more than it does currently, a strong representative body is vital to guide farmers and to hopefully give us a voice in the corridors of power.

kinda of feel the same - this would easily get enough support to finish farm assurance once and for all

i don’t t think they are stupid enough to go through with this now though - they will have read threads like this and understand just what a gamble it would be

The arrogance is strong in them though. And that’s not even looking at the steamroller (supermarkets) behind them. i honestly hope farmers wake up at last and stop this lunacy.

Problem still seems that the majority of farmers don't know about it.
That’s it in a nutshell.. the NFU membership for one are oblivious to it as they refuse to acknowledge it’s going on and what’s actually at stake. Talked to local NFU man recently and he hadn’t really any clue about it 🤷‍♂️🤦‍♂️

gaps of communication in uk ag amazes me when you consider TFF gets 30-40k unique visitors every day, 85% of which are UK / ireland, then FW gets over 30k readers every week, the NFU has thousands of members, most are visited by friends, trade, vets, go to markets etc regularly etc. SO how on earth can so many still be so uninformed/ oblivious re such fundamentally serious issues ?

is it as case of lack of interest / busy just surviving rather than no access to news ??

I was talking to a friend last night and the NFU was mentioned by him as being responsible for stopping the pick up tax change, I said does anyone take any notice of the NFU these days, he seemed to think so and was quite taken about by my comment. He is still a member and believed their bulls**t. Of course if the NFU don't mention the gfc then their members won't be aware, they aren't stupid, claim to have stopped a tax change when no-one is going to argue and divert the conversation away from gfc, some might even think the government were helping the supermarkets get gfc under the radar by giving farmers something to moan about then back track wins all round slip in gfc for free and help keep food prices down and help the government reach net zero, supermarkets get our carbon credits for nothing and government get a few contributions.
Me a cynic ?? Never

Generations of 'just getting on with farming' under a load of different scenarios - from War Ag, through food rationing, subsidy driven production (to ensure food security), EEC and then EU Common Ag Policy, IACS, BPS, Brexit to SFI.

They've just carried on regardlessly, doing what they do, probably under the impression that they think they can't do anything about it.

You wish, BUT
Going by what I read on here,
Explain to me in simple terms what GFC means, firstly for farmers and then for the general public.
Best not upset the public like just stop oil protesters.
Which diesel to use red or white?
Don't go in your fancy expensive tractor.

GFC is a short cut for the retail sector to be able to appropriate farmers' efforts (in the environmental improvements they are making) to be able to con their customers (the public)into thinking that TescAldMorBurys are 'working hard' to reduce their carbon footprint.
Best not upset the public like just stop oil protesters.
I'm not advocating using tactics like that, by any means.

Haven't had a fancy, expensive tractor here for donkey's years, so that won't be an issue.

Many NFU members probably never read what they put out anyway.
I know I hardly ever read their stuff before we quit as most was just 'look how good we are'.
Bit like AHDB literature..
Lots here had stopped reading agri mags before @Abi Kay started to expose stuff, then started on FW again (myself included, but i still just scan through it mainly and dont see much relevant to our farm)

GFC wise though, where apart from here is talking about it?

There’s a very large percentage of UK Ag that aren’t social media literate, or media even for that instance. A huge percentage of which will be NFU. They actually rely on them to keep them appraised of relevant issues which makes this GFC slide of hand all the more rotten!
