Got some fert out yesterday on some direct drilled winter corn but didn’t fancy the ploughed ground…..but had more rain since.

Can’t see many fields will be seeing a sprayer for a fortnight at the very earliest.

Managed to get fert out on everything that’s worth keeping, travelled very well just tacky no sinking which surprised me because walking on it you make more mess! Dd crops actually looking better now than anything that saw a cultivator. Trouble is what’s left to be spring sown is running with water springs appearing everywhere, some sun and east winds would help for sure.

Never known it so wet in north notts, water stood in most fields, started raining last July and not really stopped. Hardly any decent crops about, a fair few farms haven't planted any cereals, some had a go on the frost a few weeks back and it's all now looking like a swamp. Most of the rape has failed due mainly to flea beetle and wet feet. Had a drive around south Linc's a couple of day's ago and it's not much better, some nice looking crops around Cranwell on the way back but that was about it. All this talk of a big percentage of the wheat planted is nonsense and what is planted there will be a huge amount ripped up.

What's your current UK wheat harvest expectation - 9mt?
Think it's anybody's guess at the minute, lots can happen yet, lot's of spring wheat planned to go in around here but unless we get some good drying weather soon nothing will be planted in march and yields will taper off quickly with later sown. Then if we do get a drought to follow this then all yields will be dismal! I was fairly chilled coming into the new year but after this shite February things are starting to look serious. Also with the amount that's being put into SFI, or taken out for solar then it's going to be interesting.

I think this is the great unknown. I know a fair few farmers now who, after walking crops, would have rather the seed still be in the bag.
Yes I was kicking myself last October for not getting more drilled but so glad we didn't as it's turned out, also decided not to put any rape in at the last minute and again it was the right thing to do, it's just been impossible to do anything with all this wet on the heavier land, I'd rather not put anything in than maul crops in and get half a crop if you are lucky. Just got to hope we get some favourable weather soon.

Unsure. tbh I have pretty much said thats enough for 2024 harvest. Im sure plenty will be trying to get spring barley in come mid April. But will be a folly. Ill fix some drains and get it sorted for next time.

We need to get a certain amount of crops in as we need the straw for cattle, but some is already going in to SFI and could well be more to follow yet. We can do well with spring barley here but totally reliant on getting rain when you need it come may and June, we are also doing some drainage work where needed.

Impressive ruts but hopefully that's the final pass for the crop this year.
