Best way to resize images?

I need to copy some images and then process them some how and get the field size down to 50kb without losing the detail when I resize them. Is this possible and if so how best to do it? They are only simple cut and paste images of ECGs, nothing too fancy. I just need to keep the detail though when I resize them or the detail is lost and they become useless as images- you can't see the ECG traces if that makes sense?

There are different levels of compression with jpg files and some file formats can be made smaller with decreasing the amount of colours used.

Hmmm. I'm not 100% sure on that. A lot of the images I have created using plain old snipping tool. If I put them into paint I have the option of PNG, JPEG, etc?

So as an example I have one that is 1416x672 pixels as a PNG and the file size is a snitch over 1.03 MB. Only the service I use will not accept file sizes greater than 50 kb. What is the solution if I need to keep roughly the same size image and the detail involved?

Here is another example I've pinched off life in the fast lane. The image needs to be around this size else you can't get the necessary level of detail but the service I am using won't let you upload an image larger than 50kb- anything over that it just shrinks. I can adjust the size of the image natively in that service but in doing so it turns to merde and you can't actually see the ECG any longer if that make sense? There is no fancy resolution or colours involved, it's just ECGs. It's a bit of a weird problem considering I've been uploading CT scans and radiographs no problem and when adjusted natively they still contain the needed detail at the correct size on screen. But these ECGs for some reason are much larger file sizes?

That picture downloaded as a PNG at 727kb. I had to set my JPEG compression to 80% in my ancient graphics software to get below 50kb without resizing

Thank you. I will try that. It hadn't occurred to me that just saving it as a different file type would shrink it that radically.
