Was talking to a man into vintage stuff, he rang a lad near Dublin about a "mint" Major, drove the 2 hours to go & look at it, as he drove up the lane he spotted this tatty Major sitting which had been painted, cow shyte still on the wheels under the paint, stopped with the lad & asked if that was the tractor? yep, so he told him she's not what I'm looking for & drove home again without ever getting out of the jeep.

A couple of years later he rang a lad about another one, discussed it on the phone till the lad asked " do you drive a black Discovery?" I do, "ahh, this wouldn't be your cup of tea then", was the same lad again.

I'm in Cheshire so not practical to travel to view it.

I thought I was buying from a reputable dealer and could rely on their description being an honest one.

I wasn't looking for a mint condition machine - but the faults were very obvious and should have been disclosed.
I’m in Ireland and I booked flights to go to Girona in Spain to look at a machine today , there’s no excuse in not travelling to see it, that’s called laziness around here . And when I hear keys for the door been a major issue I gave up.

Buying s/h is always a gamble viewed or not and I've done both.
For those that say take the day out to veiw that's OK if the item veiwed is what your after and in good condition however if its not you need another day out to veiw then maybe another and another.... That's when time starts to get precious. Does help if you can get a few to veiw on the same day and pick the best available.

The issued listed are I would say to be expected, the bulbs going well that happens they don't last forever, as with mirrors od say there are few tractors or any machine that age that hasn't had glass break on the mirrors, just by their positioning they are susceptible to damage,
The seat and clocks are the two I'd be looking to get redress over.
Perhaps if he has said " look if you sort out the seat and give me a wee bit off too then we will call it quits

I see things slightly different. Bulbs and mirrors, assuming mirror arms are still in tact, are simple/cheap features that I'd expect to be there and work, especially if I intended for it to go on the road.

Bulbs cost pennies and even if it needs a new lense or bulb mount it shouldn't be dear to replace. I also see it as a good record of maintenance if someone has bothered to replace them as they broke rather then just carrying on. What bigger problems did they also leave unattended to.

Heaters. And seats fair enough as they may be costly items you may not want to fork out for on an older tractor but things that may get you pulled up by plod on the road should be sorted.

I just think that perhaps if both had shown a bit more flexibility then things would be sorted amicably

Sold as road worthy or ready for work are different things surely.
I think he needs to take it on the chin and fix it himself. Or sell it on again if it's really that bad.

I bought a krone front mower in the auction they had last year. Couldn’t view it as I only noticed it last minute. Phoned Stuart who told me it was working condition and would do the job. In my ignorance I thought it would be at their depot in insch but when I phoned after the sale to arrange collection they said it was at a yard in Dumfries which is 300 miles away but they would get it up to insch for £200. When I finally got it home over a month later I noticed the bed was bent like a banana and oil dripping out of it. Phoned Stuart who says it was an input in the sale and had no idea what condition it was in but would phone the guy and get it dealt with. Another 2 calls to him and kept getting the same story basically getting fobbed off. Still nohing done a year later. I’ve bought several new and used tractors and ploughs etc from HRN in the past with no problem and great backup but that was when his father was in charge. He would have had this issue dealt with in an instant. I’ve not dealt with them since and it’s put me off buying any machine from them again. Lesson learned, trust nobody
When you ring Stuart that the item is tits up upon delivery he gets the father to take over, then the father will do f all. You speak to many in the trade and they laugh when you mention Barclays.

Being ready for work Is one thing but if it can't travel legally down the road to the far field its not fit to work.

We traded in a tractor at 11 years old for similar money and everything worked, including every light, heater and radio. I didn't think that was unusual but maybe we spoilt the dealer.
