fire proof walling for commercial units

splitting up some agricultural buildings into commercial units. The partition walls should be fire proof to withstand 1 hr, what are people using was thinking of precast concrete panels you can get fireproof composite panels but cant push against them any ideas would be helpful

I put some standard concrete panels in for exactly that purpose.

Same cost as rock wool etc but a far better, stronger, and more reusable wall.

Unless you get a written guarantee off your panel supplier building control will not sign off concrete panels as a firewall partition. Currently doing a 4 building site where this has happened and the panel order has been cancelled and now the partitions are being clad to floor level.

Twin skin block wall if you need to be able to push against them, unless you are just pushing 1 side then you could just clad the back side of the concrete panels.

What are they cladding with that is permissible as a fire wall?

We did a stud wall and double plasterboard on both sides with Rock wool between to separate boiler house from next door.

Didn’t ask for nor request feedback from the officials over it but plasterboard is hard to burn!

Can also get fire board that’s like thin flat fibre cement sheets

Is this being clad with composite panels or built up white liner sheets with insulation rolled between?

Have building control said anything about the steel purlins needing treating with intumescent paint, as they cross over into the neighbouring unit, through the party wall?

Good question that.

I had to paint steel columns between units with intumescent paint but that was all.

They have asked us to paint the purlins with intumescent paint. The building inspector said a minimum of 1.5m either side of the party wall to prevent fire spread, seems a bit overkill, but he is adamant it is needed unfortunately.

Yes composite panel being used to the floor level now. This can be a freestanding wall panel that sits on the floor, or a standard composite panel fixed to cold rolled rails etc, if its a retrofit and you dont have internal columns then the freestanding ones are a good option.

You can single skin both sides of the cold rolled rails but you need to fill it with fireproof rockwool and also use firetape on the rail faces etc

What composite panels are they? Would a normal kingspan ks1000rw do the trick? Could you solid block up to say 2m then panel above to roofline?

Also do you always have to intumescent paint the heavy section on new industrial buildings?

I believe its the 80mm ks1000 panel you need to get +60mins fire integrity, but worth asking kingspan before ordering.

Intumescent paint will depend on the use/location/ownership etc
