Farmers earn more from YouTube than their crops

I applaud you for sticking it to them, but will agree with those that dont go the patreon route. The pie gets sliced very thinly
That's why I've always said I will create content on YouTube as I've had loyal
Followers that have stuck with me for years but cannot afford Patreon.
That said, my centre core of followers wanted to send me money to regularly support what I do - I said I would t be happy with that as kind as it was.
They suggested I start a Patreon and in return I could produce exclusive content, so that's what we've done and to be honest I love producing content again as I'm free to post what I want and enjoy - everyone happy.

Fair enough. I know some see it as a begging bowl though, and would disagree with that. Doesnt do any harm to dump whatever onto youtube weeks later to get views either, I dont see that as pointless; it does generate views

I find the idea of YT premium a bit off putting really. They are pushing it hard now, to the point that watching regular YT is almost unbearable with the amount of ads. Premium feels a bit to me like they have all the creators doing the work for them and they are reaping the reward for it. Not that they weren't before with ads of course, but how little of the money from this premium service actually makes it to creators?
It's gone from "Want to go ad free ?" now it's more like "I bet you're really F**ked off with these F**king ads aren't you, you F***king loser !" 🤣

With Google ads it's about a 45/55 split to the creator.

I suppose thats the thing we as consumers dont really get to see, youtubes attitudes to the people that actually make their videos. I'd want to f**k them over just as much as you do

If you're happy just doing a vlog or stuff that doesn't rock the boat then it's fairly straight forward.
If however you want to make a video that has an opinion of viewpoint, they're not so keen.

Imagine you want to produce a video about cows (this is only a metaphor) so they say that the cows can't have horns as they are deemed 'harmful of dangerous'
Okay, so no horns.
You must also make sure the cows shown are not over a certain height or weight as that is deemed 'sizeist to small animals' under YouTubes guidelines.
So small, no horns - got it.
Your video must also be a certain length to be monetised (so animals that won't stay still long enough to film won't be any good)
The animals also can't make certain noises (such as "Moo" etc)
Nudity is not acceptable so full clothing only.

Basically, once you've jumped through all their hoops and guidelines, before you know it, your 'Cow' video is now about F*cking sheep 🙄 (not literally as you'd breach some kind of guideline...)

How could they not like cuddly bulldozers though. :ROFLMAO:

Probably damaging the environment 🙄
They turn a blind eye when a video gets half a million views overnight like my Cat vs Komatsu one did.
Would half a million views earn around £5k?
Quite a bit of work put into the Cat vs Komatsu i thought it was very good.
I know it was a bit of a cheeky question but some of the other peoples youtube
videos have 20-30 thousand views so i often wonder if it would be financially worth the bother.

Cheers 👌🏼
Again, another one where I didn't follow the rules. Was going to be Komatsu only review and I thought it too good an opportunity to miss 😉 So me and Roly spent a day working side by side, swapping machines every few hours until we felt we knew both machines then we filmed the two pushing side by side and showing what they had.
One of the most enjoyable videos I've made.

YouTube want you to watch what THEY want you to watch - they shadowban and hide channels that don't fit in with their 'ideals' and views.
In turn they push creators to make content that THEY want you to promote.
It's well known and now well proven.
If you're happy to roll over and take what they give, good luck to you but myself and many others aren't.
I'll use their platform for my own means, the same way as I use Patreon.
Maybe I don't watch enough controversial stuff 🤷🏼‍♂️ but when I've searched for a particular topic I've always found something to watch or a new channel to follow. I've never been unsubscribed to a channel. I subscribe to your channel and your new videos always pop up on my page to watch.
I would be more restricted to what I can watch if everyone went to Patereon as I couldn't afford to pay to watch all the different channels. Fair enough you're doing it mainly to support a charity but when others do it, it does feel like they're doing it to squeeze money out of you.
My support for the channels comes from me watching the videos, if I find a new video interesting I'll 'like and subscribe'. I've subscribed to a couple recently with less than 1000 subscribers, but then if the next few videos from them are rubbish I'll probably unsubscribe. That's not YouTube judging what I can and can't watch, I watch what I want to. For the price of 1 hour in the pub a month I think it's not bad value.
I feel less grievance paying for YouTube than I do the TV licence.

The point is Tom, you're seeing much less than is actually on offer and that's down to YouTube steering you/controlling what you see.
Anyway, good to know you're seeing my stuff as it's published 😉 but people need to be aware that all these platforms (Facebook, Instagram, Google) are increasingly becoming more and more manipulative with what 'choices' you think you have.

A friend was telling me that he was in his kitchen having a conversation with his sister about some product and then later she got her phone out to catch up on faceache and there was an advert for said product. They put it down to the Amazon echo speaker on the kitchen table "listening in".
I told him that he needs to read a book by George Orwell called 1984.

I was having a cup of tea in my mates kitchen and he kept whispering. I asked him what's up and he said that his phone was listening to him. I told him not to be so paranoid as that was just nonsense.
He realised he was being silly and so he laughed, I laughed, Siri laughed....

YouTube is a strange place, I have a small channel varied content but a lot of machinery and such content, I have one video that’s got 90000 views yet I have many that are under 150 views and only 400 subscribers, total hit and miss as to what will get shown to others and what won’t !
What is your channel called?

Enjoying this discussion and learning a lot - thanks.

I even find googling frustrating, nowadays, as you often can't get an obvious answer when searching and have to try various routes, eg try searching for "balls" and end up looking under "round things that are not square".

I have put all my online activity onto a VPN and that has slowed the amount of direct follow-ups I get. I find it easier to just accept that you are being watched nowadays and to not leave too much of a trail. Easier said than done.....

I keep telling him to stop having conversations about dwarf porn too, all these popups the wife keeps finding.🤪

I definitely agree these companies know more about you than you'd like and definitely listening to your conversations.
Not sure I can cope with more stuff to watch though. I suppose it's hard to know what you're missing if you don't know it's there.
Just looked on your channel and I've watched nearly every video you've done over the last 7 years! 😧
Definitely raffle the Major, just sit nicely between my Dexta and 8210! 😁
