I agree, breeding flocks and herds will decline faster and will there be as much stock to buyBought in stirks taken to finished.
Like i say its harder with sheep and suckler cows to an extent.
But take the winter bird food option at nigh on £200 acre, to achieve that same net profit per acre from buying store lambs would mean you need to finish nigh on 20 lambs per acre in the winter months.
You may be right and that is why you can only enter the options like wild bird seed that are not going to cost you much to carry out.I do think they will run out of budget before the best paying whole field schemes get too far.
There isn’t the budget there for vast tracts to go into these options, and i dont think they meant for that anyway, probably budgeted on 5-10%. What they will have overlooked is how pee'd off and fed up so many farmers are.You may be right and that is why you can only enter the options like wild bird seed that are not going to cost you much to carry out.
If you put in expensive herbal ley's and then they reduce the payment rates you will end up putting money to the job.
Fixed that for you. Both factors in removing product for processors. Lack of profit is the biggest threat to UK ag.
If you haven’t made money the last 3 years farming then you never will.Fixed that for you.
Agree. It’s been easy to make a lot of money recently. If you haven’t made money the last 3 years farming then you never will.
I wouldn’t say easy. But possible. However if pork and chicken production is exported in mass to Eastern Europe because there is no factory support in the UK then grain prices will be -15/20% against Europe with Fert 15/20% higher. Got to keep a support industry or it will never come back.Agree. It’s been easy to make a lot of money recently.
Totally agree. It’s only been easy to make loads of money because of wars and diseases, which ain’t a business model!I wouldn’t say easy. But possible. Well that came true sooner than predicted. There isn’t the budget there for vast tracts to go into these options, and i dont think they meant for that anyway, probably budgeted on 5-10%. What they will have overlooked is how pee'd off and fed up so many farmers are.
It was predicted at the pilot stage of SFIWell that came true sooner than predicted.
the way I see it...
1/ they don't want to subsidise food production
2/ they want to regulate to the point of persecution
3/ they want to scapegoat us to 'greenwash' other industries (flying)
and if you still ,after banging your head again the proverbial 'brick wall' produce food...
4/ they don't want to pay for it
so why try?....get into sfi and give them what they want
They wont listen, think they are above us. Well it seems those lofty intelects in defra f**ked it royaly upIt was predicted at the pilot stage of SFI
