SFI is NOT the answer

Depends on the % going into SFI.

If 10% or less & more on poorer land will it make so much difference. Set a side at 15% did not.
Depends whether as much can be produced off the land tied up in schemes which I doubt especially in the case of livestock. You can see by the number of slaughterhouses and markets that have closed over recent years it is an industry in decline.

over the years Less farmers, less livestock , brexit have all made it tougher for processors .
and yes it will be added to that list if it does lower production but if the likes of sfi suits your farm then why angst with no ...effect over others problems.

quite simply why keep producing food commodity for not enough financial return ?

What effect do you really think it will have on farm output? I’d be surprised if it’s even noticeable
Certainly noticeable here. Down to 120ac arable with close to 850 in SFi / mid tier.

Five years ago were farming 2500ac. That stopped when we were given the cost to replace a combine.

Yeah, it was tricky soil. But high output. That required high input. Now we end up with more £££ out for less in, and less tied up in tin. Calmer lives and more time.

I'd be surprised if anyone looking to rent land out on an fbt wasn't better off putting it in a stewardship scheme.

That said, it seems like very few are actually applying at the moment. Can only presume that they will put the rates up, which we will benefit from anyway.

Next on the agenda will be this BNG.

but the processors of grain do so even now with imported , even more will be imported why will it make any difference ?

Its the livestock industry that will be up against it most. as it is already but a lot of people actually don't realise it.

Blame is a pointless word. Control what you can control.

the way I see it...
1/ they don't want to subsidise food production
2/ they want to regulate to the point of persecution
3/ they want to scapegoat us to 'greenwash' other industries (flying)

and if you still ,after banging your head again the proverbial 'brick wall' produce food...
4/ they don't want to pay for it

so why try?....get into sfi and give them what they want
