The war in Ukraine...

Maybe we'd be better off asking the Russians to build HS2 rather than getting into a war with them.

British Defense Ministry: New Russian railway to occupied Ukraine to support Russian activity in Mariupol

The 60km stretch took 8 months to build & re-establishes rail access denied by fighting around Donetsk.

It would need an awful lot of cash for the bribes and backhanders 😳

I've always said Putin will escalate to the next stage if it looks like he is in danger losing & in fear of being driven out of the parts of Ukraine he now occupies or else the bridge to Crimea is completely destroyed, I assume the Ukrainians are aware of this as they seem to have the means to bomb well into Russia but not target the bridge seriously.
Don't kid yourself that the Russians are't capable of further terrible destruction.
They are capable, but he knows if he bombed any NATO country he’s finished

Can't help that feeling that the whole idea of setting up the EU was always in the main for the benefit of Germany.

Thats great news, with Putins Russia behaving as it is, increased artillery is exactly what is needed👍

The number of artillery shells that Czechia has sourced for Ukraine is now at the 1.5m point, a real achievement. Two things stand out in this, first that these will be in addition to newly manufactured shells (and they are in date too); secondly, that an awful lot of these can only have come from countries that, hitherto, Russia would have regarded as friends, or even client states.

We already know that, following their dismal public performance, orders for Russians arms is a tiny fraction of what it was before it started the war in Ukraine. Now we know that the Kremlin will have a list of states it sold arms to, and that are now effectively supplying those same arms to Ukraine.

“butcher” seems apt enough
May seem apt but when you have the leaders of the two countries with the most nuclear weapons who at some point will need to negotiate & you have one potential future leader calling the other one a butcher negotiations are never going to go well.
No mater how bad you think the Russians are behaving Biden calling Putin a butcher is crass stupidity & shows he is not fit for office, I don't remember Putin calling Bush a butcher when Americans were slaughtering Iraqis & Afghans.

putins Russia can’t be trusted to stand by any agreement, so it makes no odds
