The soil seems so badly slumped I don’t know whether even the stuff that has grown will come to much. We’d be a long way off spring drilling here even if we were going to bother. It’s like marzipan at best. Really it’s a write off year.

not giving up yet last monday ploughed a stubble for sp barley 2 months later than planned but ploughed remarkably well problem it rained monday night and again last night, same day ripped up a field of failed wheat surprised to see how dry it was underneath but same rainfall ,today been a grand day drying sunny though chilly still I reckon we are a bit further forward and as I type we are throwing urea about without making a messin the dark. The one thing ive re learnt again this cropping year is dont rush to roll in october despite what the agronomist says.

I've ordered my NUM 3 mix, so I hope those goalposts don't move!

We have managed to drill the spring barley bar 10 ha. Nothing rolled, all direct with a sprinter on 3-inch Dutch, so it's not a firm fine seed bed by any means! 🤞

As grim today as lv seen for many a day. Cold east wind, ground covered in snow at first light ground as wet as it could be. Real terrible weather for young lmbs. Been no wee dry spell to dry things up at all this March, it's really needing to take up soon. April next week. The years get on.
