The legume fallow should be on a 40 acre field, the same field has an sfi agreement excepted which says there should be a twelve metre legume strip going around two sides of it and a ten acre patch of flowers on one side and nothing in the middle.
There will be a problem when rotational items are confirmed in the Mid Tier revenue claim which will be submitted by May 15th

The SFI agreement will have no maps were the options are to be placed, is it the agent who has produced the maps indicating were options should be placed?

SFI IPM4 could be used on the legume fallow in CS.

Did the agent not have access to the CS agreement?

I have said that to them, it’s not the first thing to come up, unfortunately the lady has lost her son and husband in the last three years and although having always worked on the farm has very little understanding of the paperwork side of things. The agent seems to think he’s running the farm and dictating to her what should be done and when she suggests things she would like to do regarding schemes an such like he poo poos most of what she says and does the opposite, my wife can’t find any reason on paper why most of the things the lady would like to happen can’t happen 🤷‍♂️!

Remember to listen to an agents advice but always make your own decision even if it is totally different to their view... i also apply that to agronomists and all salespeople because its your business it affects not theirs!! They get paid regardless.. YOU dont if you make the wrong call...😊

I’ve said exactly that to them, he is paid to implement what you want to do on your farm! She is such a nice person though and won’t stand up for herself, she’s getting better and more understanding of it all as time goes on but she’s coming into it all totally blind to it!!
id like to be invited to a meeting with the agent and tell him how it is but…..

Just be the voice of reason and remain objective... most of us get ripped off at some point or other and you either take it on the chin or let rip! Thats a personal decision!!

It sounds like you could do it for her if you've the time and make a better job than the agent. I've certainly managed to get along fine with no agent involvement.

Putting an application together. Want to put most of our rye grass to sam3. My problem is don’t want to have all my grass sprayed off at the same time. Can I put say 50% in this autumn and the remainder next spring?

You've got 12 months to complete the actions; in this case I'd say that means established, so that should be fine. Apply for the lot now. If you're nervous about another crap spring, you could split the app and do a 2nd in a few months.

Thanks for that. Can you do another agreement within the 3 year agreement? So it’s not like css where you have to wait?

So it seems. I've got a live one and have been playing with a new one. Definitely on different parcels, probably same parcels if the additional options are compatible. When new options come on stream, this appears to be the way to add them without having to wait until an annual review.

my concern with adding new options into an existing scheme is that these options wont/ dont/cant end on the same date as the original scheme thus forcing you to have 2 or more schemes running which after a couple of years will be a nightmare to manage , i.e field rotation , change in farming practices, retirement etc

Yeah, there's a lot of open questions about the mechanism/consequences of the annual declaration and new additions. When combined with the change in attitude recently, I would try to get everything started now, if at all possible. In the example discussed, a May 2024 start date to have established the new ley by 30/04/25 would have a reasonable expectation of success in my view. Delay a month if nervous.

I would wait until they publish the SFI/CS offer for 2024.... jumping blind into another SFI 23 agreement at present would be very risky...

They've published enough to make fair decisions. The list is out there, along with proposed rates, and we can make a fair assessment of what the compatibilities are likely to be.

There's nothing any use to me (juicy options are prohibited on grass), and I doubt there'll be any surprise treats. My exploration of another agreement is mostly to understand how the system works. Probably won't submit anything.
