Have sky news on in the office and heard this being discussed. Have there been threads about this already?

Now, at least 100 farmers have signed up to a new campaign group, BI4Farmers, to ask for a universal basic income (UBI) for all farmers in Britain.

Interesting concept, but the interviewer immediately asked that if the process are farming was to be de-risked, then surely the upside should also be capped. Which is a worrying though - as farms don;t just make money from growing food.

“A basic income for farmers would guarantee an adequate income, improving access to time off and reasonable working hours and making entering a career in farming affordable for new entrants.”

I'll be willing to bet that they've really stretched the definition of "farmer" in order to claim that >100 have signed up.

It took less than 30 seconds to find out that it was started by one Joanna Poulton "a keen activist with interest in social justice and climate justice" (to use her own words) who then roped in a left wing think tank called Autonomy and a bunch of parasites who go by the name of The Basic Income Conversation, and is mostly made up of "food rights activists, and a few academics".

That should tell you a thing or two about their real motivations.

Actually I'm not surprised . The general perception (including James O'Brien) is that we as farmers all voted Brexit
English farmers did
I didnt vote as i was struck off register after eviction from my farm tenancy caused by ridiculous eu subsidy rules that allowed the landlord to hoof me out and claim bps himself
On the day i would voted for brexit for the above reasons
