Only 6 weeks in to his new post as CEO of AHDB , Graham Wilkinson finds time for a key trip (read jolly) to meet USDA in America

Back at the ranch , Red Tractor today laud an initial review commissioned by AHDB from the Birnie Consultancy on key beef and lamb assurance differentiators . a 77 page report telling us what we largely already know and "reviewed" by "experts" including, once again, Dr Jude Capper (you know the one who wants me to reduce CO2 impact by bringing down my slaughter age of cattle (regulated by abattoirs) by shoving cereals down their throats and bulling them far too young in an NBA report still residing with DEFRA .

We still have no clear picture as to the proper review and reform of the mission creep they all supported (NFU / RT / AHDB) nor any idea of AHDB policy, remit or evaluation of value for money

Something we agree 100% on, the farce that is Red Tractor and AHDB...

Nothing good will come of talking to the USDA, unless he is learning about how to support domestic agriculture. The USDA know how to do that and do it very well.

Unfortunately, unless the ahdb wake up to the reality, this will be seen by the USDA as an opportunity to break into the UK domestic marke, adding to further harm to UK agriculture.

We have 70 plus million well off customers in this country, all within a short distance of most farms. What's the obsession with exports when we are only 60% self sufficient?

I also thought AHDB had some well paid export experts with specific responsibility in this area - why not leave them alone and stay at the Mothership and focus on some real issues much closer to home












Or have many of the "findings" on the domestic assurance review already been agreed / collated ?

I was excited to hear that the AHDB had decided that RT was better than Aussie and NZ schemes......now I expect they will be writing to their corporate masters to suggest that in light of this they should refuse to supply Aussie and RT beef and lamb.

Will Jackson 'phoned me and I told him I wanted an existential vote and all I got was "I'm new in, watch this space" etc etc

I cannot believe that one of the "experts" the AHDB appointed to review that latest Birnie report was Jude Capper - to me after the infamous NBA report and her track record I find it incredulous as a levy payer I'm still paying for this
