New Holland T7 front driveline knocking

Have a T7050 and it has suddenly developed a loud knocking noise below the flywheel that frequency is proportional to ground speed

Its seems to be the driveshaft to the front axle immediately where it comes out the front of the gearbox

anyone have a exploded diagram of this area. Any universal joints there or driveshaft connector collars etc ? To me it sounds like a uj assembly hitting the underside of the bell housing etc.

It is very hot there after the noise came on and a smell of burning

any ideas anyone ?

Someone will be along with a firm diagnosis soon im sure,but there is a bearing half way along the driveshaft that is known to give trouble.I think there is an upgrade to stop it going again.

I think the one you mean usually burns the paint off the casting when it's knackered which would seem to be a possibility when the op mentioned a burning smell.

Drive shaft bearing, not a bad job of your handy with the spanners, your local NH dealer will have the full kit on the shelf..... It's very common !

Yes have to drop axle pull forward. Not as bad as it sounds but heavy on your own! need pallet fork extensions to make it easier.

Surely it will need dropping and pulling forward to access shaft ?

Why would you go to the hassle of removing the axle when you can do it without?
Once it’s dropped down there’s not much else besides the 2 pins to remove it and it’s more accessible once out compared to splitting the UJ and then removing it and splitting the new UJ for installing and replacing the bearings on the swivel as well

No need for the axle to come off, but you need to split the UJ in situ to do it that way.

The one I did destroyed the prop so bought a new one and ended up cutting the old one off. Not a bad job, just replace everything, I spent too long trying to save as much as I could before biting the bullet and ordering the kit.
 
I need to recover it 6 miles

if I took the 3 planet gears out of each epicyclic hub - it would be fine to drive as half shafts wouldn’t turn ?

Would I even need to replace the hub covers and fill with oil again as nothing would be rotating ?
